As an old Brisbane boy and one who spent a lot of time driving to the Gold Coast in the 1960s and 1970s, I recall the old highway with great fondness. I have been enjoying your walks immensely. Thank you.

Good grief, what a monumental effort with a healing broken toe. I had my school formal at the Beenleigh Rum Distillery back in 1986. Yes, the road you walked on at Pimpama was the old highway to the Coast. Certainly a different perspective to driving.

I normally walk around Dreamworld, under the motorway besides Coomera river. Beautiful area to walk. That big lake at 15:12 is Damien Leedings park. Nice lake to walk around. I consider walking from Coomera to Southport or Surfers Paradise. You're giving me some inspiration :)

Rob, you’ve regurgitated my imagination and my emotions with this narrative video....sitting in cold miserable cloudy winter Melbourne I re~sensed the joy of having driven the route hundreds of times on very early Sunday mornings listening to Macca on radio ABC Australia All Over program so I could to wrestle the surf, ground my body on the soft sand and be on that beautiful strip of beach. And yu took me places under/ over all those bridges, rivers, creeks, footpaths that I flew past & always wondered about! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The old highway to the Gold coast - I was born 1955, and remember as a kid the family trips down to visit my Grandma at PAlm Beach. The Coles Servo where you had the sandwich, opposite that Roundabout is a hidden cemetery - Pride of place at the front is Russ Hinze, the Minister for everything - second row is almost all members of the Oxenford family...

Very interesting and enjoyable thanks . I lived in Beenleigh years ago and we would stop at the now gone strawberry farm ! They had animals to pet and a cold drink there, a quiet place half way to the Coast ! And on the way home Yatala pies ! We left 15 years ago and it's become very built up , traffic looked very heavy ! A great walk well done ! Best wishes from St Just in Cornwall UK .

Hope you do a walkabout of New Farm one day as I attended New Farm State School from 1959-63 and though i know its history. I would not mind it being explained on film and I use to live in Kent Street and then over a shop at which is known as Halls Buildings which is named on the building on the corner or Commercial Road which leads down to the wharf - thank you for your walks

@theresa healy and it's amazing how one comes to understand the topography of the landscape as well. Hills, streams, valleys - all must be traversed. In a car it's easy but on foot even small hills after a while can be a challenge.

Rob Amazing, i couldnt event have the balls to walk down those inbetween parts of Yatala and Pimpama or where you had to share the road. and its a great walk too on the way you got Ormeau shopping village, you got the Service centres and off course the yatala Pie Shop so its a good people who do this route walking/Jogging or Cycling wont go hungry maybe if i were to do it as you said i would Bicycle if i was going to do this abit slow in areas of interest to take in the scenery that Church and Cemertary looked spooky probably at night. In fact here i go on my high horse the state government i think they need to invest more in walking paths and bike infrastructure between between shared councils like Logan and Gold Coast perhaps we will have less reliance on the Cars on the M1. for example if i was Gold Coaster wanting to work at Yatala if the bike ride and path was safe well lit due to the great weather the SE gets i would cycle to work no need for the car clogging up the M1. Anyway off high horse and thanx for your tour i hope your recovered well which off course you have.

This one was really interesting to watch because I live in Logan and have driven to the coast hundreds of times over the years, and watched all the various road upgrades etc. it was fun watching you walk and explain the various sights. Wow Rob, top work and thanks for sharing that great walk with all of us. I reckon you would make a great tour guide. I like the historical aspect of your videos and as a walker myself, I can identify with the effort required including those painful feet at the end of the day LOL. Bet the feet took a while to recover from that effort? Also just looked at your Boundry Street video and that is excellent too. My first job was at the old peters ice cream factory in Boundry Street West End. I think there is some kind of retirement community there now? Anyway, thanks again for the great and really interesting videos mate.

Very informative but you missed some of Beenleighs history. The history of Yatla Pies ( midway from Brisbane to Southport) and Bullens Lion Park, ( the large industrial blocks just south of Beenleigh.) The hotel was the Oxenford Hotel and not the Oxley Hotel. A walk I would never do or have done.
@walkaboutwithrob
@walkaboutwithrob Жыл бұрын
@Dennis Hannam thanks very much for your feedback. I didn't mention Yatala Pies or the old lion park simply because I didn't walk past them. I was on the east side of the highway going south and missed both of those places completely. (They are on the west side). I have though just shot a video about the Stapylton area and Yatala Pies will be mentioned in that one. Hope you enjoy it 😄

I think your shows should be compulsory viewing by ALL BRISBANE primary and Middle schools so that the young people have a very tangible historical connection to where they live and its history. @@walkaboutwithrob Well, I go there weekly, because it's that great. I was going to suggest perhaps Purlingbrook Falls first, then Twin Falls (4 km each), but knowing the kinds of walks you do, maybe one along the roads would be more your thing. Lyrebird Ridge Road, for sure. All lined with forests. Got to be loads of local history up there. One thing: if you didn't like the lack of footpaths in Dalby, you'd find wandering between each settlement challenging!
