I also have a 23hp we pulled out andnreplaced with same hp. I think i am going to try and rebuild after watching this video. Doesnt seem that difficult.

It’s not difficult at all. I buy the rebuild kits off eBay. They come with rings, seals, and new gaskets. It’s a lot better than spending almost 3k on a new engine!

Nice job. One question, I couldnt tell if you drive the crank seals home or not. I replaced the opposite side seal last year and left a small gap for oil exit. There are lots of little tricks that are sometimes learned as on the job training. Cant wait to see part 2 and 3.

What donor motor?? I’ve got a ch26 with a bad ecu and a 20.5hp with bad rings thinking of taking the 20.5hp to make my 26hp carb? Can’t get ecu for the 26hp anymore.

As long as the engine is a kohler command the swap should work. Take the flywheel, cooling fan, intake manifold, coils, carburetor, stator, and engine harness and swap it to your 26.

Great work! Any idea why the lifters/pushrods would be ticking when the engine first starts? I heard it’s a Kohler thing. I’ve got a 20HP version of this engine in my MC.

Loose rocker arms? Weak valve springs? Worn valve guides? Those issues come to mind when valve train noise is present. Hope this helps.

@@berndtslawncare4906 Maybe so. It’s a rebuilt engine that was in the mower when I got it. Once it warms up a little the valve train gets quiet.

If it’s burning oil it would be smoking. If it’s not burning oil I’d just run it !
