I bought a Walker Xcel Bluetooth for about $70.00 at Academy Sports just after Christmas, (regularly $149.00). I have been using them while mowing listening to music and radio. I can lower or raise the external sounds to near zero allowing me to lower the volume on Bluetooth. Awesome sound quality. They work GREAT at the range where I can use four different sound modes to hear normal conversation while accentuating for steel ringing. These are my third electronic ear-pro headphones and are by far the best.

I wish an ear pro company would make a set of electronic muffs with a shake awake feature. It would be nice to lay them next to the home defense gun and not have to worry about turning them on.

One problem about being in a high pressure (loud) environment is that damaging sound pressure levels also travel through the neck and cause permanent damage to the ears. So, plugs and muffs do help, but know that your neck is another vector.

Well, I've been working on a whole business around The General and his buds, but sadly, the manufacturing world in the US moves at a snail's pace and I fear the tailwinds that would've given it a good boost are largely gone now.

I've always been scared of using these products. My mind always goes to "what if?". What if the electronics fail, amplify the gunshot directly into your ear? That's terrifying to me. I work in cybersecurity and see systems fail and backfire in ways they never should all the time. I don't think I could ever bring myself to trust something like this, despite wanting to badly! The amplification seems so handy and advantageous. Loved the video as always, TWANGnBANG! Thank you!!
@TWANGnBANG4 жыл бұрын
If the electronics die, then they work like regular ear muffs with full protection. If they somehow fail to shut off, the sound from the speakers can only be so loud, and that is well below the volume that will damage your hearing. There is no way these do the things you're worried about.

I already bought Walker's ear pro a while back. I just decided to watch a 20 minute video to find out if they are awesome or they suck. I would go shooting to try them out, but I'm in the doghouse for a while and I'm hoping that after a little more labor I will be free to pursue recreational activity that doesn't involve a stroller. I bought a gun.

I damaged my hearing in Aug of 18'. I had hearing pro on, and was shooting a friends .308 with a muzzle brake. I can only guess that the seal on my right ear broke, and that was enough to let the blast in. Anyway, chronic incurable tinnitus from my right ear with hearing loss. I will not go shooting without inner ear plugs in over top 33 dB rated muffs. Like you said, the hair cells are either broken or just hangin on by a thread, and there is no cure or way to repair or regrow them. Not in our lifetime. Maybe when stem cell research is really unleashed. Some day. So, my advice is to not use items like this. The problem with electronic devices, is they can fail. Even one shot at a higher decibel rating and that's all she wrote. You are done. I'll never use anything but mechanical plugs and muffs. Always double up. Trust me. You do NOT want tinnitus. It is life-changing. Some people can't cope and it literally ruins their life. Don't risk it. Double up.
@TWANGnBANG4 жыл бұрын
Electronic earpro is incapable of amplifying sound above a certain level, so you aren't going to ever blast your ears by a gunshot while wearing them. The ear cups provide continuous protection against the actual sound, so the worst you'd ever get would be an instantaneous pop of the maximum sound the speakers can generate, and that is way below the threshold for damaging your ears.
@erikjohnson14124 жыл бұрын
Hmmm if only there was an easy made sound suppressor that didn’t have ridiculous laws 🤔.. maybe one day. Clearly future tech. Almost like it’s a health protective device. Government should surely be ok with owning these things right??

My hearing chart is very similar with the same max loss around 4000 Hz. As explained to me by a doctor, gunfire attacks the frequency response at 4000 Hz. Very common among shooters.
