Of the many similar channels about English villages, I prefer yours. And that's why. Clear sounds, very slow walks, no people or moving cars, no music or commentary. Thanks for the fantastic videos.

Nice opening in the field. Idyllic location. Good focus on the gardens along the way and Autumn colors in the trees. Narrow ivy and stonewall walkway shot was lovely as was the lead up to the church with the beautiful sunrise closing. Thoughtfully filmed, again. 🙌🏻

Hatherop is a very beautiful village, quite imposing. Imposing because its houses are large and a bit majestic. Many are old and this gives a very beautiful image of this village. The church, also imposing and very beautiful, seems very difficult to access. There may be a wider path, but I haven't seen it!!. Parishioners must like walking to get there. A very very beautiful gutter hangs well on one side of the church. An interesting and beautiful walk with the day breaking. Thank you Friend OAAW 😀😀😀😀😀

This is amongst my favorite walks yet- not only because of the scenery, but because daybreak is my favorite time of day! It reminded me of times I shared with my late, beloved grandmother, who also loved to be “out and about” at dawn. Quick question: You mentioned the river Colne in your descriptions. My dad- as a young GI in WWII- was in England, and spent some time at the Earls Colne air base. Are you located anywhere near Earls Colne? I realize that rivers often stretch great distances, but the name of the river caught my attention, so I thought I would inquire. Thanks for another nice video. It shall be rewatched, I’m sure.

Hello, Janet. It is really nice to hear from you today. I am glad you enjoyed this walk. Oh, I think there might be a subtle confusion over the spelling of rivers...the river you mention (Colne) is I believe to the south-east of Gloucestershire (my home county) and the River Coln runs close to this village. That is interesting regarding your dad being based here during WWII, thanks for mentioning that. Thanks very much for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your day and hope to speak to you again soon :). OAAW

Oh, okay- different spellings/different rivers! Thanks for answering that question. My dad spoke highly of England and used what weekend passes he was granted to view interesting and pretty sites. He also commented on the beauty of the small villages. (He did a lot of walking while there!). I think I owe my interest in the UK to growing up on his stories. Have a good rest-of-your-day. : )

The church at Hatherop was granted by Ernulf of Hesdin to Gloucester Abbey before 1096.The church, dedicated to ST. NICHOLAS by 1545 but in the 18th and 19th centuries sometimes known as St. Matthew's, is built of ashlar and has a chancel with north vestry and south chapel, a central tower, and an aisled and clerestoried nave with north porch. It was entirely rebuilt between 1854 and 1855 by Lord de Mauley from designs by Henry Clutton and William Burges. Its predecessor was a smaller building with chancel with north vestry, central tower, and nave with north porch. A gallery had been erected by 1825. The main body of the present church is in a mixture of English medieval styles with many of the features carefully observed. The east end is by contrast in a French gothic style and the south chapel, which is a mortuary chapel to Lady de Mauley , is particularly striking. It is tempting to see in this an early work by Burges who was Clutton's assistant. The monuments include an early-14th-century effigy of a priest, unearthed by the early 18th century, and the tomb of Lady de Mauley of 1848 by Raffaelle Monti. Reset in the chancel are two enriched tablets to the Blomer family of the mid 17th century. The font was given in 1858 as a memorial to Lord de Mauley. The sanctus bell was cast in 1621 by Roger Purdue of Bristol. The tower had three bells c. 1703 but a peal of six cast by Abraham Rudhall was the gift of Sir John Webb in 1715; one was recast in 1852 by C. and G. Mears of London. The plate includes a chalice and paten given in 1599, an alms-dish of 1670 given perhaps by the rector in 1756, a paten of 1789, and a flagon of 1849; there is also a chalice, probably foreign, of medieval design. www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/glos/vol7/pp86-96#anchorn309
