I was told not to go backwards with my walking foot. Is that just for my Brother machine?

That's really weird. Try it and see what happens! LOL! Machine manuals have such weird advice these days!

I found pleats on the back, the top is fine. What do you reccomend to avoid that?

This can happen for a variety of reasons. Did you stitch the outline first, and then quilt the middle? That can create pleats along the outline because the fabric isn't able to shift outwards if it needs to. Another reason can be your backing fabric. Was it starched and pressed so it was stiff before basting? One last thing is the type of batting. When I use wool batting I almost always get pleats unless I machine baste the quilt with water soluble thread. That batting is just really squishy and seems very prone to creating pleats on the back of the quilt.

I am using wool batting and I stitched the outline first. I did Best Press the living daylights out of the top and bottom. I will hold the outline until the end in future. Thanks for your quick response!
