Were you nervous walking in on your first job and how did you get over it? What was your first job like?

Same as most of us. Bought the truck, tools and machine and then went and tested. Passed my first pipe test and went to work building cattle guards. Had to prove myself like all of us. It never changes though, everyday is either a chance to build your reputation or destroy it.

Here it is 3 years apprenticeship and then you are called a bronc for another 5 years then you are considered a tradesman with 8 years of experience, then you are still learning . First big job was for a flat rate welding on the back end with rig for 16/hr . in 1975 that was real good money . I was scared all the time about doing a good job and keeping up and not being in the jar hole . Tested twice to get the job because the inspector figured I was a young punk and needed some humility and I was not even trying to be smart . Both tests looked good and passed the xray. Found early on to keep ones mouth shut and letting your work show who you are . Your reputation is all and you are recognized for it. 45+ years later and retired I find I miss the challenge of what I did . It was something only a few could do or want to do and there were few who could do it good

For those that read this comment, mainly to Jake and Kabe. I was the one that tested with him on that job. When i first met Kabe i told him i would help out with anything he needed. And after he left the job another welder we both knew, was a bad egg that had a horrible god complex. And his attitude rubbed off on me, i got caught up in bringing him down. Have regretted it since then. We all start somewhere. I had 4 cutouts on my very first job while in school as well. I know the feeling he had. I am no longer in any contact with the certain welder that made everything public. And i wish nothing but the best for you kabe. If you ever need anything dont hesistate to reach out.
