Walking Jersey - Ouaisne to Portelet Inn (Part 1)

@thereluctantoutdoorsman Tom (from The Reluctant Outdoorsman channel) and Paddy the cockapoo go on another virtual hike, this time from Ouaisne Bay to the Portelet Inn, Jersey, Channel Islands. The video was filmed on Tuesday, 27th. August 2024. This walk will be broken up into three parts, with this being Part 1. Tom and Paddy are filming walking the entire coast of the island in both directions and this is another section covered in an anti-clockwise direction..

I spent a couple of evenings on that lovely terrace of Margaret Thompsons house at the start of the video going down the slipway :) Despite the Real Housewife's of Jersey interpretation of her she is a lovely lady. Others on the island may disagree lol.

Wow Darren that's interesting and also nice to know! I did watch some of the Real Housewives and of course remember seeing Margaret on it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea! I must be a really miserable old git, because I couldn't stand Bergerac either, although I think the majority of people who watch this channel thought that it was very good! 😁😁 Thanks so much for your comments! 👍🏼

Hello Tom that drive down to Ouaisne Bay has got to be the slowest I have ever driven on Jersey got to be careful in a hire car 🙂some great weather again for a wonderful walk to Portelet. Lock up your daughters I will be back for a couple of days in 2 weeks to hopefully do some filming which on my last visit was spoilt by the weather. Take Care and Keep Smiling

I’m very happy that you are continuing with channel as I need my weekly fix of Jersey Tom. As lovely as Mrs Thompsons house looks if I had the money I wouldn’t choose that location on the slip, each to their own. Having lived on the Island for 24years and watched a few episodes of Bergerac you could always spot lots of mistakes. Like the time Jim was chasing someone through Lords nightclub and it finished on a balcony at in on the park. Lovely walk as usual Tom, and no you said St Brelade bay. Just got back from golf practice and the calf muscle was giving a bit of a pull but should be ok for my first comp next week. Cheers 🏌🏻‍♂️& 🐕‍🦺 good golfing this weekend.

Hi Nic, I think I'm good for another year of videos although what with all the puffing and panting at the start of the video you may be forgiven for thinking otherwise! I checked with the hospital today and they told me that there is an 8 month waiting list for the test I'm waiting for - so another three months or so and hopefully I'll be there and the breathlessness will be reduced! I think you'll be dangerous in the next comp as "beware the injured golfer" seems to be a spookily accurate saying! 👍🏼🏌🏼‍♀️⛳😁

Hi tom ,when we hear you a puffing and a panting ,we all know at the end of it is a beautiful view,and it sure is , we walked from st brelade to the smugglers once ,but staggered back afterwords 😂. All your walks are special but this one was extra special.

Thanks Tom for another amazing video, only 2 weeks to go and I am over in Jersey again for a few days, hoping the weather will be good. I have walked from Ouaisne bay to St Brelade's many times, but will try the left turn and follow part of your walk this time. before returning to the Old Smugglers Inn for lunch. Do keep up your videos, you do more for Jersey than what Jersey tourism do for the island!.

Hi Tom and gorgeous Paddy, I'm back home now after a fabulous 2 weeks in my favourite place, and how grateful I am for the lovely weather I was fortunate to have. It's great to see this walk as I did it twice while there, but I cheated, I didn't do the climb up, or down!!! I had a lovely meal at the Portelet Inn en route. The speed at which you do these climbs is amazing so I'm not surprised you are breathless😂 I have a book which mentions the lady who lived at that house. She lived there in very basic conditions until she was 80, after which she moved to Quennavais, but still missed her house on the cliffs. She had goats who apparently used to wander down to the beach and surprise the holidaymakers!!! This is such a stunning walk, both to do and to watch on video. I look forward to the next one. There is no problem in 'cheating' whilst out walking, as you should definitely only do the bits your comfortable with and if you don't actually need to go up and down great big hills what's the point! 😁 Imagine living in that place at the top......incredible! My brother used to have a little business delivering bags for the airlines and once dropped one off to the lady in question. The story of the goats is a belter and one I've never heard before!
