Enjoyed your video as a way to look back on what I've just accomplished. Completed my first Camino this week - took 25 days with 10 days rest in between. Finished (July 24, 2019). Really enjoyed this video - for me, starting in June, it was even more beautiful, green, with all the flowers and beauty in full display. Had an oppressive Meseta experience - most days reaching around 40 C - but also among the most interesting and still beautiful. Stunning Navarre - Lush Galicia! Food for the soul. Gifts that last forever. Thank you for making this.

Hi Mark, I'm so glad you enjoyed your Camino. I'm not sure if I could cope with 40C+ days though. 30C was enough for me. When you're out there for 8 - 10 hours a day the body can only take so much. Rest up and enjoy whatever adventure comes next :)

Hey, really good video man. Can I check, was there any issue with using the music that you've used? Love the soundtrack to it.
@deanpreston4 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, I made the decision early to use copyrighted music because I wasn't really interested in making any money from my film plus I wanted to use songs I loved and actually listened to on the Camino. You get the standard copyright warnings but there hasn't been an issue so far. As long as you're not using it for commercial reasons there's nothing they can really do. It's news or educational related anyway so I don't think there will ever be an issue. Glad you enjoyed the music. It played a big part in getting me to the finish line.

I really enjoyed your video. Amazing! Hoping to do mine starting end of August this year to honour two friends of mine. One who was murdered in South Africa and the other one who died of cancer. I want to make a vow of silence so my prayers are not diluted in chit chat. I also want to fast, only take minimal nutrient and sleep in a tent as I go along. Is that too hardcore? Thank you in advance for your reply.
@deanpreston5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if a tent is the way to go and I only saw one person with a tent along the way. A bed is only 5 - 7 Euros a night so it's a small price to pay for a bit of comfort but I'm sure a tent is an option. Good luck and let me know how you go. Buen Camino :)
@markm.57565 жыл бұрын
Hi Fabien - great way to honor your departed friends. Just completed Camino Frances this week - met many people honored departed loved ones. Great idea to be in solitude, but also helpful to meet/chat with people along the way, as they too are gifts that often help you heal. Go with the flow, but be mindful of your intentions. I agree with Dean here, best if you check into an albergue for approx 10 euros/night. It's worth a good nights' sleep (with ear plugs to block out the snoring), and nothing like a hot shower at the end of a long day. Your body and feet will thank you. BUEN CAMINO!

Thankyou for sharing! I am doing the camino in a few weeks Debating on going through from st Jean to Roncesvalle or staying a night in orrison?
@deanpreston5 жыл бұрын
Well it depends on a few things. If you walk from St Jean to Roncesvalle directly I would allow at least 8 - 10 hours. There might still be snow about that time of year so that might complicate things as well, especially up higher. I think it's about 32kms all up and it's uphill most of the way so try and travel as light as possible. From memory The Orisson is about 4 hours from St Jean so you may want to keep going depending on how you feel. The first day was the toughest for me because it was really windy, there was some snow to get through, I was carrying too much weight plus I was filming which took up time as well. I left St Jean at 7am and arrived at the albergue in Roncesvalle at 9pm so all up it was about a 14 hour trek that day. I would try and get to Roncesvalle on the first day but it's up to you. Let me know how you go. Buen Camnino :)

Hi Dean, I have just watched your film 👌🏽 How dis your feet fare throughout your camino?
@deanpreston5 жыл бұрын
It's interesting you ask because my feet didn't fare so well and towards the end I was worried I might of done some damage. My problem was the soles of shoes were quite thin and by about halfway I was concerned they wouldn't last to Santiago. If you look closely in a few shots you can see I have tape on the back. I think they were probably a half size too big and combined with too much weight (15 kilo pack) it took its toll. I actually got blisters under my feet towards the end which I think was a result of some moisture getting in at some point. My feet were actually a dull numb for about 6 months afterwards but are fine now. I would recommend getting shoes with thick soles and some gel inserts to absorb some of the pressure. I found the walking poles worked too but I only had those for the second half of the Camino.
