Join me as I narrate a walk through the SoHo neigborhood in Manhattan.
From Wikipedia:
"SoHo, sometimes written Soho, is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, which in recent history came to the public's attention for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, but is now better known for its variety of shops ranging from trendy upscale boutiques to national and international chain store outlets. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socioeconomic, cultural, political, and architectural developments.
The name "SoHo" refers to the area being "South of Houston Street", a name coined in 1962 by Chester Rapkin, an urban planner and author of The South Houston Industrial Area study, also known as the "Rapkin Report". The name also recalls Soho, an area in London's West End.
Almost all of SoHo is included in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, which was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1973, extended in 2010, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978. It consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings, many of them incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. Many side streets in the district are paved with Belgian blocks.
SoHo is part of Manhattan Community District 2 and its primary ZIP Codes are 10012 and 10013. It is patrolled by the 1st Precinct of the New York City Police Department."

SOHO is a VERY interesting place. I can't imagine the loss to the city if Robert Moses had gotten his way and bulldozed it, and Greenwich Village for another expressway. 👍👍👍

The cobblestone streets are a welcome change from the norm. The first time I heard of cast iron buildings. It took artisans to construct them in the intricate designs.

I don't know why you would need more praise, but I'm praising you anyway. It's been more than 50 years since I've lived in Manhattan. I love your tours. I become familiar with bits of information and hidden areas that I was never aware of when I lived there. I'm so glad I had the New York experience when I was young and, through your videos, see the changes and newest developments I hadn't been aware of. I will watch all of your videos, and, more than once.

I don’t know if I would want to live there full time because it really seems expensive to live-but we love to visit!! I love your videos and I use them to learn my way around NYC. I also love the bits and pieces of history you tell us about different sections and buildings. I did not know that most of SOHO is cast-iron buildings…I found that really interesting. Keep the videos coming! You do an excellent job young man. Thank you from Pennsylvania .

I grew up in NYC but now live in a suburb of Atlanta. While I love the Atlanta suburbs, the city of Atlanta is dead compared to NYC! ATL is certainly cleaner and has a lot of nice modern buildings, but no ambience whatsoever. The same can be said of most American cities - dead! I also felt a lot safer walking NYC at night than I do in ATL, believe it or not!

I used to make semi regular visits to NYC (not SOHO) back when I lived in New Jersey. How I took it for granted that I could just "stop by NYC for the day." Now that I live out West, however, I can't say I miss it that much. It was a nice place to visit once and a while, back at that time, but I don't think there's enough money in the economy for me to live or work there now, especially how the city has gone downhill lately.

You should do all videos in sunny clear weather. The difference is HUGE. Thanks for the great video

Somehow this reminds me of the area around Canal Street in New Orleans, the buildings are of similar architecture but the SOHO buildings are bigger.

I dont think the fire escapes are unsightly. They are a part of New York, and I dont think they are any where else?

Thanks for another great tour. I can tell your true appreciation for your city in your descriptions. Something that surprises me as you walk by all these designer stores is how many of the businesses are not accessible. I'd think that almost thirty years after the Americans with Disabilities Act these stores would have found a way to get around the steps at their entrances. While I'm not really disabled myself, I do have a bum knee, and many of these businesses seem to be very unfriendly to people who have any trouble at all getting around.

Pretty neat to see this part of NYC. Somewhere in these areas is where Ghost(1990) with Patrick Swayze was filmed
