I've watched some of the Shorts on how Justin made homesteading profitable. I think Justin's success is totally a consequence of his love for his family, the land he has inherited to stewart, and the animals and plants that sustain them. The love is what makes him successful.

Just adore little Henry! He is all for hard work, no coat, and near zer0 temps! His little soul caught on to what dad was doing, and gave Justin a look of just you wait and see dad what I’m made of! Truly a Rhodes! 😊

I really appreciate seeing Jonah and Josiah working to repair and rebuild the homestead after the Hurricane disaster that struck your area! They are fine young men. Gideon is learning and helping a lot too, Lily is going to be a wonderful Mom and homemaker someday too! Her cooking abilities are far better than a lot of adults! Lily is so good working with and riding Blaze! 🤗😇🌟🙏🏻😎👍

Justin I am a new follower of yours and I so appreciate the simplicity that you bring to the table. You talking about the chickens blessed me. That is exactly what we use to do on the home farm and always had an abundance of eggs.

They do make an electric pipe wrap for your frozen heating pipes. I think it can be thermostatically controlled so it only turns on below a specific temperature. This might help in the unheated walls/spaces.
@jimc50965 сағат бұрын
Yes. It is used by almost everyone in the North who live in the rural areas and in house trailers to keep their pipes from freezing. Not very expensive and saves thousands in pipe and building repairs.

Maybe you could put hose holders on the root cellar wall to hang up your hoses and keep them off the ground. Love watching your family do the every day stuff.

Henry standing on the chair making hot chocolate reminded me of the book The Glass Castle, the main character recounts a story of standing on a chair to cook hotdogs! Great (hilarious) book if you haven’t read it. Btw the hotdog story didn’t end well. 😱❤🤙

Eggs are about to go up again. My hens will be 2 in a couple of months, and they did not produce like I thought they would for about a month, they’re starting to pick up some. But I only have 18 hens. I have not put artificial light, but I have added some layer to a feeder of theirs. They get a lot of our scraps which is mostly what we’ve grown or meats from our neighboring farmer. I was at Publix a couple of weeks ago and a 16 pack of eggs was over $8.00. Thankful mine have started back.

I think the solution to the animals pooping in their drinking water is to attach a blue barrel to a post in the pole barn with the nozzle at head level. I think this would work just fine for the sheep but am not sure if the cows would drink from a nozzle. If not, a trough elevated to head height would do the trick. Perhaps build a supportive framework that could hold one and make it so it can fold out of the way or be removed when not needed like during the summer time when the pigs are in there.

I always have my boys turn the chair around, tall part in the back, so they don't tip back. Safety.

If you’re concerned about your pipes freezing, leave your water running throughout the day. It doesn’t need to be having all of your faucets on full blast constantly but make sure there’s some movement for at least one sink but I would try to make the majority of your sinks, continue to tricklefor a couple of days until this freezing weather passes because you don’t have the insulation as northerners due on our pipes because this weather isn’t normal in your area, obviously.

Lilly thinking its 30 degrees when actually 14 degrees is mind blowing to this San Diego native..Im currently bundled up head to toe (w/flip-flops course lol) it is 64 degrees!!! If it dips below 72 the "winter gear " comes out 😂😂😂
