Lovely video, thank you. My husband grew up (70 years ago) in the white house at the junction of Priory rd and Westbury rd, very close to the Priory, so this area is very special to us. ❤️

Great walk James, one of my favourite area's, yes so much debate to be had where the battle took place. I always believed that Alfred camped south of Warminster, and headed up over Battlesbury onto the plain, so favour Edington as the site of the battle. But so many debatable things, we do not know 100% if Alfred did camp south of Warminster, just the mention of Iiley oak, in the Anglo Saxon chronicles. Will look forward to walking this area again with your extra insights in mind :)

Loved the links to history you pointed out on your walk. Loved the strip lynchets, the old mile stone & long barrow. Wonder if there has been any archaeological surveys on the moat/site of the old Manor. Fascinating as always James; thank you.😃

Thank you James..Great video and very interesting.. Around two years ago I visited Edington whilst researching and visiting the battle sites connected to the Danish campaign against Wessex.. Cannington and Combwich in the Bay of Bridgewater are another good one.. All connected to the main battle somewhere near Edington…. Thanks again for a great vid 👍

My pleasure a great area and a good walk -The one advantage with walking at this time of the year is no livestock apart from sheep in the fields -Thank you for watching my small adventure 👍

My Cousins, the Corp Brothers, own Upper Baynton. My dad was born in number 7 Coulston, I spent the first four years of my life in that house.

oh, and Dad's initials (and therefore mine because they're the same!) are carved in one of the trees on the long barrow next to Tottenham wood. we tried to find them once, but Dad couldn't remember which tree

"Where they used to knapp flints" 😂😂😂😂😂😂 A knap (double 'p' must be historical) is the crest of a hill. On newer maps, Flinty Knapp is more over towards the bottom of Coulston Hollow. I've noticed that, when it rains heavily, flint pieces are washed down Coulston Hollow onto the B3098 (the main road) at the crossroads there. Interesting that area you mention being strip lynchets. I think you're correct, but OS maps don't mention them. Ah well, I don't suppose they know everything 😁😁 It's funny to see you've walked where I have walked, and flown the drone.

Thank you towards the bottom of the Knapp it is lush green pasture and towards the top it is chalky-A great walk and a history challenge-Thank you for watching 👍👍
