Walking The Dog! Paint A Simple Loose Watercolour Beach Landscape/Seascape, Watercolor Tutorial Demo

Unfortunately I didn't get much time for filming last week, so today I'm using up the old paint on my palette again before cleaning it, to paint this simple beach landscape scene using the soft, pastel colours produced by mixing it all up. I was interested to see what colours would result in mixing up different ones than those a usually use.
I had some prussian blue, alizarin crimson and a dab or two of raw and burnt sienna and paynes grey left over from a Patreon tutorial, so I used these to create my washes before cleaning my palette. Hopefully I can make time to get back to something a bit more ambitious and interesting next week!
My board is at an angle of about 45 degrees tilt. Why not try something similar with neutrals mixed from your palette?

This view could be yesterday, or 150 years ago. The quality of agelessness simply relaxes me. Inspired by the last one you shared like this, I had a go. The whole large flat area of water, that could be a huge mirror. To prevent being a complete copy cat, I left my own mark on it, having a rocky outcrop jutting out from the sand, and scraped out some reflection on the edges of it, with the store card. But it actually worked for me. It's has no class to it, but the over all painting is quite cool. Even my dear wife likes it. (That takes some doing, to get a compliment from her. LOL). Thank you so much for causing a little confidence in me. It's made a big difference. Till the next time, TTFN.

Hi Lois I have watched and enjoyed your many videos...and learn so much. I live on coastal Florida and love the skies and sunsets..such vibrant colors. One observation......so many of your skies and sandy beaches feature yellow...which is offputting to me. Our skies are either blue or gray...and beaches closer to white. Is your atmosphere different??? None the less...someday soon I will be brave enough to try your techniques. I have been taking lessons 3 years now and love the medium. Keep up the great work and teaching!!!

Thanks for your feedback , however, I never try to imitate realistic colours when I paint, it isn’t my style. I use whatever colours express my mood or the way I feel and respond to the landscape I’m trying to paint . To me, colour is fairly unimportant, contrasts, tone and atmosphere are what I try to capture, not local, realistic colours. I hope that helps! 😊🎨

Lois, I love this. The alizarin and Prussian combination is so pretty, so soothing. I’m going to ask what is probably a stupid question, but I always wonder in these type of scenes - is the headland within a walkable distance on the beach or is it a large peninsula land mass that is miles and miles away? It’s confusing because our beaches have very large rock formations that jut out into the water across a very wide portion of the beach. In a scene like this with people walking on the beach, I would paint these rock formations to.look similar to how you’ve painted the headland. If one is walking on our beach it looks like these rock formations are huge and jut out far into the water. Its a good long walk, but you can reach these rock formations from the beach. Is this making any sense to you? Lol.

I know what you mean, but I’m painting scenes inspired by coastal areas of Cornwall and Wales where I’ve walked many times, these headlands are quite small and within east strolling distance
