Walking the Whelley loop line Part 2

we pick up todays video where we left you in part one at the Viaduct which carried the Whelley Loop line over the Douglas Valley to Standish Junction .
We continue heading toward Whelley exploring the old track bed to see if any clues remain of the old railway ,come with us as we take a look .

So so interesting again. What struck me about this in particular is firstly the sheer size of that man made embankment and secondly, the way nature has taken back what man has made. The birdsong along the way, trees moving huge pieces of concrete over the years - and then those stunning Roe Deer. Beautiful film again David and Shell So many interesting finds too and once again, the great way that you add in the old images at the appropriate points. And some wonderful drone footage to put the lie of the land in perspective. Good stuff Have a good rest of the week you guys. 👍👍👍

Hi Guys , Glad you liked this one ,we loved doing this one loads of birdsong no one about and the wildlife ,the manmade banking was from what was wigan coal and iron works a huge place next to the canal it will feature in the last film . I like to use the drone to like you say give a feel for the area but sometimes it's not right to fly with restrictions or too many people about ,people sometimes get paranoid when they hear it . We like to add the images as I like to try and give that then a now feel , sometimes it's hard but we feel it works and is worth the effort ,shell likes to find something then come back and try and date it ,we often get looks off people who think we are mad filming a bit of concrete or bricks ,they have no idea what was there before . wow , the first to comment , i remember the bridge over the canal when i was a little boy , i used to walk over it with grandad , the track was still down , but i m sure he knew the line had closed being a retired signal man , there was still a home signal fully intact further down on the left , that is as far as we would walk , great film and thank you to both of you for all your great films , and dont forget triangle publishing for the very best of wigan s lost railways , very best regards , from nick in pemberton , wigan , lancashire

Hi ,thanks for the comment ,its hard to believe there once was a line there in places ,that area of the canal has now just the retaining wall left which is a shame , good memories for you ,I never saw it so it's nice to find an image to try and imagine what it was like ,we still have the last section to edit yet to amaberswood . I'm looking at more lines in your neck of the woods so keep watching.Thanks again . David &Shell
