Todays video takes us Back to the Standish area of Wigan as we start to explore the Whelley Loop line .
We make our way to whats left of Two viaducts and then explore the area around Haigh Junction and see if we can find anything of the old signal box that once stood there .
We first went to explore the viaduct back in 2020 and a link to that video is in the description .
We hope you enjoy the video .
Thanks to all the new subscribers and all that like and comment its much appreciated .

Another fascinating film. It really is amazing how much of our heritage is slowly drifting away. Those viaducts are amazing but look like they won’t last long!! Great to record all this guys. An amazing reference point for the future! Absolutely loved the cup and paste pot. They were amazing finds! Look forward to Part 2 👍👍

Hi Guys , Hope your both well ,yes the viaducts have seen better days and there future is uncertain ,its a little worse now than back in 2020 but that's to be expected ,i think they only keep the arch over the road maintained . Its our history vanishing and it wont be there for ever unless someone decides to make it into a walking or cycling path . The cup and paste jar were nice to find shell likes to find old pottery to date the area ,I doubt vey much it was from the signal box but we can dream . Thanks again and have a great weekend ,keep your eye out for part 2 David & Shell

Hi Nick, yes we finally made it , we had been here back in 2020 but only really looked at the large viaduct ,but after you said it was worth a visit we decided to head back and have another look , not the easiest place to get too but worth the messing . We were surprised what was still left behind all these years later . We continued all the way to Bickershaw over a couple of weekends so we have plenty more content coming soon . We didn't know about the bomb being dropped nr the viaduct ,will do some investigating to see if I can find anything . Thanks again David & Shell

I got interested in this sort of stuff, when I got bored one day and began exploring Google maps, I didn't know initially what I was seeing in the wooded area in Haigh. I'd eventually discover it was the viaduct. It still fascinates me that you can still see where the old railway lines use to be from above.

Thanks for the comment ,like you we only really started taking an interest during lockdown ,it fascinates us that there is still bits of the old lines around ,we like to imagine what it once looked like .The viaduct is a brilliant structure just a shame its not looked after ,shows you the Victorians knew how to build something on a grand scale . Thank you for posting this interesting video. Those viaducts should still be inspected by either the property board as they are redundant assets or by Network Rail. If these bridges and viaducts keep deteriating then there could be a future danger to the public. This probably applies to all bridges and viaducts in Great Britain.

Thanks for the comment , I agree something needs to be done to preserve this viaduct , I am told that Wigan council maintain the arch which crosses over the road ,but there are no funds or plans to maintain the rest of it . When you stand looking at it its not in a good state . Thanks again . David & Shell
