They have ruined it by taking out the pews

I guess they took them out to make more use of the space

Really very sad to see those beautiful old pews, on which people had worshipped for centuries gone, to enable commercial ventures and art installations.

Why don't you write to them and make a complaint and demand that they bring them back?
