Talking about slums, I've seen several videos on slums in the Philippines and it's like a Sunday or public holiday every day. There're so many young people idling around and kids happily playing. I watched one on a slum in Vietnam. It's very clean and quiet. There were only some old women doing home-based work. I think the adults must have gone out to work and the kids must be in school. That's why since Vietnam opened up, it has progressed rapidly

Vietnamese culture is often considered very similar to Chinese culture, as both are based on Confucian values. I have visited the Philippines, and it gives off a relaxed vibe where people are at ease. The small islands there are great for vacations. However, adults there are often stereotyped as being more emotional, which is why there are many news reports about crimes. Like the Chinese, Vietnamese people are very hardworking, but they lack the Japanese pursuit of perfection. This can lead to them hitting a bottleneck at a certain stage, unable to achieve better results. This is similar to the debt problems China is currently facing, which stem from a lack of long-term vision. Officials only care about the statistics during their term in office and not about the future of the places they govern. This is a result of the exam-oriented culture, where people like to put resources beyond their means into their current exam scores.

This place is old, shabby and run down but it's a thousand time better than a slum in Seoul, South Korea near Gangnam. It is called Guryong village.
@TimmmTim15 күн бұрын
Not comparable. This place is home to tens of thousands. Guryong is, from what I've seen, basically empty. But it's also clean.

Midday tends to be empty, everyone is at work. After 7pm people comes out for walks and shop.

Less affleunt, yes, but the word 'slum' is a bit of an exaggeration. Looks like most people have a decent life. Overall an interesting video.

Great video. It is great to see China outside of tier 1 and 2 cities. Hope you will find success. That being said as many people have said to you this is not a slum. It's definitly poor and negleted but not a slum. I come from Africa and i know what a true slum is. I find it a little disrespectful to still qualify of slum what would be a huge improvement in the quality of life of people living in those actual slum. Keep going ❤

Thank you for your comment. Poverty is a very complex issue, and dirtiness and decay are merely symptoms of it. Therefore, it is meaningful to spark discussions on this topic. Previously, a Chinese internet celebrity mocked others for being poor because they weren’t working hard enough, which angered the public. Questioning how to define the term "poverty" is very beneficial, and it's important to uncover cultural and systemic causes. Otherwise, even if someone believes this place isn't poor yet, it's at least on a trend of becoming poorer.There are many African traders and students studying at universities in China. They are all hardworking and energetic. In the city featured in the video, one African individual even learned the local dialect and became an internet celebrity with 200,000 followers. They represent the trend and wave of their countries becoming better.Keep going ❤️

I watched the whole video so that you guys don't have to! No slums were detected in this video. OP is either a very privileged person who has never seen real slums, or is willfully using a dishonest clickbait title to gain more views. The only thing I saw were quaint but cute backstreet alleys.

Thank you for your comment. I'd like to explain my intention, which is to document the living conditions and environments of people from different eras. As you can see, this is a relatively new channel, and I am still working on improving it. To me, the concept of a "slum" is relative. In Cambodia, I've seen children without shoes; in China, I’ve experienced times when public security was poor and hillsides were covered in trash. Nowadays, China’s public services are quite good, so it’s harder to see dirty areas in cities. Moreover, China is a vast country. In some places, people, even if poor, manage to keep clean, while in other places, they do not care as much. For example, in the arid northern inland regions of China, the lack of water makes people less concerned about hygiene. Cost is the most crucial factor in life. Human history is the history of overcoming difficulties. One of my main goals is to document the lives of people from different eras, especially those who are often overlooked. There are many such people, and I believe these records will become valuable over time. For example, in this video, the residents are among the poorest in this city of three million. The old houses are over 50 years old, which means the residents have had no chance to improve their living conditions due to invisible barriers. Additionally, this area is in the city center, so it looks relatively clean. I plan to continue exploring different parts of the city's outskirts. As I mentioned before, China is a huge country with diverse and complex situations. Even among the poor, the challenges they face vary greatly. Some people have no choice, while others are constrained by the system. I will gradually visit different cities to document the people and streets, so there will be material for comparison in the future. I really appreciate your comment as it made me reflect on how to improve. Perhaps adding more background information or optimizing the visual language in my future videos will make them appear more professional.

@@Panda_cities_recordchina is improving everything at a staggering speed everywhere in that country.. that's because they can change the local authority that governs their town or cities at will.. That's actually not a slum at all. China is an old crowded country and so certain neighborhoods look at certain way, but they're not slums. Do old houses mean slum? To me it just means old houses.

Yes, but the details make each place unique. I prefer the traditional villages in Guangdong and Fujian. Each village is built around a small pond, nestled between mountains and water, which is the most tranquil environment imaginable for Chinese people. There is usually a ancestral hall nearby, providing a sense of spiritual belonging. It embodies the harmony between humans and nature.
