I was 10 yrs old when he passed. I knew nothing of Zeppelin at that time, except hearing the name. I walked into a Grocery Store with my Mom, and every magazine had this guy on the Cover, with his "Died, Sept 25th." I remember thinking, "damn, this guy must be really famous to be on every magazine in the store." Little did I know he was the greatest rock drummer of the greatest group of all time.

I remember hearing the news as a HS senior. We were so blasé about rock stars dying. We were upset that the tour was postponed. The next day we were already discussing rock drummers as potential replacements. Horrible. Personally, I don't think Robert Plant ever got over it. Combine that with the death of his son while he was thousands of miles away on a tour and a jeep accident that nearly killed his wife, and a Zeppelin reunion was unthinkable to him. Would have loved to have seen them, but you've got to respect that.

That's interesting. Robert Plant is descended from Romanichal Travellers on his mother's side. He and John Bonham were very close friends. I think Bonham was the person Robert Plant was closest to in Led Zeppelin. Years later he would still get emotional when people asked him about John Bonham's death.
