Have stayed in a cottage on this Estuary but had no idea that Robert Plant drew inspiration from this place. The 19th Century critic Ruskin said it was the finest walk in the world.
@rivertam78273 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that he distances himself from Led Zepp, I saw him in 2013 at a festival and he played heaps of LZ songs and was fully into it. He probably just gets sick of talking to reporters asking the same tired old questions, but I think he still loves the music, and he's talking to a fellow musician here.
@mylesmilliman61663 жыл бұрын
@@rivertam7827 Interesting, that may be true. I just don't quite understand why he seemed to be the bottleneck in a LZ reunion. I get the sense that Page would have picked it right back up mid-80's if he could have, but he knows there's no way to do Zep without Plant, and so has had his hands tied this whole time. I could be wrong. But you can bet that they've had VERY lucrative offers over the years, and after the 2007 O2 show which was fantastic (Bonham was amazing) there was a heightened renewing of interest that would have sent a new record and tour into the stratosphere had they decided to pursue that route IMO. And yet.....crickets. And that was almost 15 years ago now.
@rivertam78273 жыл бұрын
@@mylesmilliman6166 you make a fair point. But I suppose there could be any number of reasons for not wanting to tour or make music under the LZ name, he simply may not want the pressure of having to live up to the legend of being one of the greatest rock groups in history..... or maybe he just doesn't like Jimmy Page 🤷♀️
@mayoite1603 жыл бұрын
@@mylesmilliman6166 he has a few reasons, the main ones probably being to honour Bonzo's memory, to honour their original decision to break up, their previous failed reunions (they only got it right in 2007), their advancing age, the ultimate failure of Page & Plant, the amazing success of his solo career, the sorry state of so many of their contemporaries touring endlessly playing only their old hits and the audience downright uninterested in any new songs (that's gotta hurt as an artist)... and nowadays he doesn't like the heavier Zeppelin stuff either - he vetoed a lot of the heavy songs from the O2 concert

My parents avoided going there during the Eisteddfod because of the crowds but one year they forgot and we sat transfixed, listening to the choirs practising as they sat on those rocks along the river, their harmonies humming around the valley. It was a magical experience and the memory is crystal clear nearly fifty years later. My aunt and uncle lived in a tiny cottage half way up Holyhead and I stayed there a few times. Don't forget the film crew and director. It's great to see the two men enjoying the world, but the whole thing is a contrivance. I've been a minor participant in a simple public service announcement production that took hours upon hours to film a few seconds of a car wreck scene. It portrayed two cars that looked like they had crashed in an intersection, and featured a cop pouring out a "beer" for the camera. The truth is that the cars came from our towing company storage lot and were involved in totally separate wrecks. My participation was that I brought the cars to the location, positioned them in the intersection, and positioned my truck in a nearby area. For hours, and too many takes to count, I moved the truck a few feet back and forth in the background. Our company name was supposed to be clearly visible in the PSA. It wasn't. I was volunteered to the job, so I worked that misery for nothing. It's possible that the two musicians were filmed in the moment and in one take, but I doubt it.

I have resigned myself to the fact that 100 yards is the closest I will ever come to seeing Robert face to face. A concert in San Diego, the last one Zeppelin did there, is what will remain one of my fondest memories in my life. Besides Bonham being drunk beyond any sense of well being, they appeared very happy, in their element, and gave an awesome performance. Thank you Brian for this very enjoyable episode. I almost expected Tom Jones to make an appearance as well. God bless you for all you have done and continue to do.

I feel like I have grown up with this guy (Robert). He's like a favorite uncle, getting on in years, but still awesome. Brian's a guy I'd definitely have a pint with. I'd love to be at a pub with them both and just listen to the stories.

This just in. Robert Plant is officially the greatest rock singer of all time. He has a freaking sword. He is being interviewed by Brian Bloody Johnson, man used to canon fire. " FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK, WE SALUTE YOU. "

Ah, the beauty of the Welsh countryside. Robert Plant makes an awesome tour guide who knows the location and the history. And Brian Johnson just happens to be out for a stroll.
