During the summer of 1979, Led Zeppelin performed two concerts at Knebworth Stadium in England. While sound-checking prior to the first show, the band was playing "Trampled Underfoot" when Jimmy Page saw Bonzo standing out where the audience would soon be. So he turned around, and to his surprise and delight, saw Jason BEHIND THE DRUMS! He started to smile and laugh. When John Paul Jones saw Jimmy laughing, HE turned around, saw Jason playing, and started smiling and laughing, too! After they finished the song, Bonzo went back up onstage and said to his three bandmates--by then, Robert Plant was smiling and laughing, too--and said, "Now I can actually say I SAW Led Zeppelin!"

What John Bonham also did was to teach Jason (12years of age at this point) other drummers tunes like The Whos Keith Moon. So when John got asked what he thought of Keith Moons drumming, he would reply........"my 12 year old can play that" 🤣🤣🤣class act

When Phil Collins was recognized as drummer of the year John Bonham had his then 12 yr old son get on his drumset, right then and there, and play the song Collins had be recognized for. John's comment, "I don't see what the big deal is, my 12 yr old son plays it just as well."

@@mark3400 needs to be said, he is not distancing himself from his dad at all, he's taken over the business. I remember he did have a Band, "Bonham", and tried to do Original Stuff, but this is where the money is. He needs to hook up with a Billy Sheen level Bass Player and a Guthrie Vai Level Guitarists and a Good Singer with some smart Lyrics. Even if you don't hit Zeppelin level success you at least did your own thing. I think I heard Daltrey and Townsends Kids were going to make a Who Jr.... I would expect that from the "Last show ever Band". They may have been joking but it was Roger or Pete that said it.

Just listen to him funk out with the clavinet keys! I know there are purists that think any LZ should be note-for-note like the record but this is Jason BONHAM! Even his dad and the rest of the band improvised and mixed it up BIG TIME on stage. So many live performances that we can see/hear now that shows the mighty Zeppeliin mixing it up. They were/are all consummate musicians that CAN and DO listen to each other and create an exciting and unique musical performance each and every time! As a drummer, I think what Jason is doing is utterly brilliant. Pays homage to the original drum part but also brings it to a different level...puts his own stamp on it. It may sound sort of strange but I get kind of emotional when I see Jason Bonham. Just watching him and I almost can't believe it. Not because he's not a good drummer or anything. But here's the flesh and blood of the man who's been gone 40 years now, and he's playing the drums. I dunno I'm not explaining myself very well!

What I appreciate is that he's rocking the same exact gear as John, and he didn't switch out or change anything. He understands the sound JB was going for. People rarely focus on the gear. Those who try to replicate a sound tend to go for whatever's more convenient, or they'll use A customs 9 out of 10 times for some reason. But the sound we typically think of when we hear John Bonham is his 2002 cymbals, and 602 SE hi hats (2002 SE's are ok/mid). Jason really honors his dad but is a fantastic drummer in his own right.

No he isn't. Not even close. Not in technique or innovation. So many people are looking at him through rose colored glasses because of his last name. A good professional drummer of course. But he's no better than any other rock drummer. He has his dads name but that's all. Every bit as incredible? No way. Listen on you tube to his dads isolated drums on Fool in the Rain. So much smoother and more precise. No comparison. Have a great day

Mystery Painter I couldn’t agree more. He’s a good, basic, solid classic rock drummer. No innovation, no definable style or sound, nothing to set him apart from millions of other drummers in the same style. I’m not a John Bonham fan boy, but no one can deny his contribution to the drumming legacy and development. Jason is just a good drummer with a great last name. And there’s nothing wrong with that, I’m glad he has a career!
