I remember hearing once about Adolph Hitler's concept and knowledge of Australia.. He apparently said "Give me 20 000 Australian troops and I can rule the World" My life began with Australians Wish I could reminisce and cry on Tony Robinson's shoulder right now 😔. I was born on Bougainville Island, a white European child born on the island to a British father and French/ Italian mother. Bougainville was its own dream life for all of us children, from all backgrounds and colours. I am a child of Bougainville but essentially a lot of things I knew were Australian. We had Aussie television : ABC, channel 7 Channel 9 and RAGE (yet another amazing invention and institution of Oz!!) Being different yet the same defined all of us kids of BCL mine, defined all the adults too. Being different but working for the ALL is what I understand .. and that is uniquely Australian . (That was the original concept of the USA too but somehow they didn't manage to maintain it as Australia has.) I wasn't born in Australia but the doctor and nurses there for my birth were Aussies, I learnt about the world from television, but also in my family. My dad was English, my mum is Corsican French/ Italian, I was born and lived on Bougainville Island and a lot of my life was based on Australian way of life. I am not Australian (my sister is now though, she lives in Adelaide, her work made her able to be there and get her Naturalisation).. My mum is about to travel to Australia on Monday, 3 days from now and I am happy for her and also so jealous !!!! It has been 20 years since I was last in the Land of Oz 😢. I don't think anyone will read this comment.. I guess I am just writing it to get things off my chest. Life was never the same after leaving Bougainville to live in the UK. Australia is my closest connection to reality, the way of life I believe in. For me it can only now be in memories, dreams, fantasy or watching Aussie tv 😊 Slip, Slop, Slap... If you don't understand this then you are not Australian 😂 "Give me a home among the gum trees, And lots of plum trees, A sheep or two and a kangaroo , Clothes line out the back, veranda out the front And and old rocking chair" 🥰😄

Thank you Tony for this beautiful documentary about a country that I genuinely like and that is Australia! I like New Zealand too! I think they are both beautiful and charming countries that I would love to visit one day! I think there were many good things from England, Britain and America of course that were technologic, material and spiritual! I think their culture is rich, beautiful and charming and stands for many good premises and values! I think they are people totally worthy of preservation! Again, thank you Tony for your wit and insight! Cheers!

He asked what will the Australia of the future look like? Like most places : a tyrannical net-zero hell that can lock people down at the slightest whim.

I loved this series. It's very informative and very entertaining, as only Tony Robinson can do. I really appreciated learning the history as I saw where it happened. The computer graphic simulations were pretty cool, too. It's just too bad it's so far away from me.

the reason we said NO was because we didn't trust the dodgy model the self serving polies came up with . for me at the time ,malcolm turnball wasn't really serving australias best interest . it was mostly about malcolm serving himself.and wanting to get a higher profile

Actually the dodgy model was realistic. The role of head of state has to be non political. That means they cannot be directly elected.

yeah - 300 years to say "we're sorry" - somehow in the world of "fairness" that just doesn't count. It's far from enough. Yet, there IS Kevin Rudd, speaking from a truly aware present time perspective about the truth of acceptance and what it takes to create a truly evolved society :)
@davidparris7167 Жыл бұрын
It was actually 219 years not 300. For 3% of the population (I have not included the estimated 0.8% of bogus aborigines) the aborigines whose only claim to fame is they are still here after 40,000 to 65,000 years (estimates vary) and are only a small footnote in Australian history unless some long-forgotten cache of literature or invention is discovered in a cave....... somewhere. Their rigid patriarchy, extreme misogyny, humbugging and use of violence as a control weapon can be counted as a social/ political long-lasting legacy of their original tribal culture which ironically is the obstacle in the way of creating ''a truly evolved society''. It is through education and being in personal command of a better destiny than thinking of themselves as childlike and forever victims of an undeserved fate that they can become a fully integrated part of the nation.

They are a feral introduced pest that decimates local wildlife populations.
@amyk518 Жыл бұрын
Foxes are an introduced, invasive species in Australia and they destroy native species and habitats that have no defences against them. They cannot co-exist so unfortunately the culling of introduced species like foxes, rabbits and cane toads is a necessary reality to save these native species that are found nowhere else in the world. The pomp and ceremony of the fox hunt shown here is entirely unnecessary though and isn't a common thing
