A double not quits walk! 2 churches, 2 pubs (and 2 pints and 2 packets of crisps), 2 request stations, 2 blackberry stops and 2 dog dips. But no zoomies....were Logan's legs tired too!

He managed to get some "Zoomies" in but I didn't act quickly enough with the camera!

Another fabulous walk Dave around that fabulous countryside, taking in the beautiful historic buildings and hedgerows. I thought the history of that quaint railway station was super. When you mentioned the history of it Dave, it so reminded me of the closures that took place in the 1960s by Beeching who was as you probably know, was extremely unpopular at that particular time. Having said that i can see that trains still run through there but presumably on a reduced timetable.Would that be right Dave?🤔, i don't know.

Hello Dave. You've found a very pretty area there in Dorset. Two pubs as well, although I noticed the one at Yetminster had a sign calling it the Butchers Arms. What were those workmen doing at Chetnole Halt? Creating a car park would be sensible considering where it is!
@DaveFord
@DaveFord Жыл бұрын
Hi Lionel. The White Hart at Yetminster has a number of old pub signs relating to other pubs in it's beer garden. The workmen were repairing the pathway from the road down to the platform. Cheers. Dave.

Another good one, Dave. I'm always impressed by the fact that, when visiting churches, you show properly-exposed close-up pictures of stained glass windows. General views always wash out the colours, but you take the time to show the real picture. Thank you!

Thanks Jim. Although I am no expert, I always find stained glass windows in churches fascinating - they can be amazing works of art at times.

Beautiful video as always Dave, for me the highlight was the halt at Chetnole I think that I could have sat in that little waiting room in the middle of no where for hours, just soaking up the solitude and pondering life.

Thank you John. I never thought that I would describe a railway station as "cute" but Chetnole Halt really is!

First time I've commented but have been watching regularly for at least a year. This is a fantastic channel. You offer an excellent potted history of places and the villages in your main counties are superior to anything I've seen in the UK generally. Logan is the added X factor.

Wonderful walk as always Dave - I wonder if the Wriggle looks a bit different now after all the rain we’ve had recently!

@@ianluke3326 Thanks Ian. Yes, I suspect that it can become a bit of a "monster" at times (looking at the depth of the banks!). Hope you are well.

Thanks for showing us Benjamin Jesty’s farm. He was another unsung hero. Although I believe he did eventually gain some belated recognition and a medal, though nothing like Jenner’s £10,000.

Thank you Dave for reminding us of sunnier and drier days. Hard to believe we enjoyed so much sunshine with the amount of rain we've had lately. We certainly have a lot of interesting places to discover in Dorset all within reasonable driving distances. Beautiful scenery to enjoy.

Double bubble for you and Logan in the pubs today Dave! I can't believe you went to Yetminster and didn't mention The Yetties, surely the village's main claim-to-fame (if you did, please accept my apologies, I'm trying to do other things while "watching" the video)
@DaveFord
@DaveFord Жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention the Yetties. I did film a small scene in which I talked about the history of the group & their connection with the village . However, I had switched microphones temporarily and it wasn't until I got home and did the editing that I found out that the microphone for that scene wasn't switched on! Fortunately that sort of thing doesn't happen too often!

Thank you for an interesting walk Dave. I wonder how one goes about buying a ticket at an unmanned station like that. Perhaps like everything else these days it's all on line.
@DaveFord
@DaveFord Жыл бұрын
Thanks Angela. I don't recall seeing a self service ticket machine there so I guess you get your ticket online, purchase over the phone or from a member of staff (guard?) on board.

I used to live in yetminister back in the 80s 90s. I am very familiar with the area. If you would have kept walking on past chetnole station you would have came to a farm called Church Farm Stockwood. There's a very beautiful little church next to the farmhouse that's open to the public. My grandfather used to work the Land There from the late 40s to the mid-90s. I can remember when Prince Charles came to visit the church when I was about 8 years old I was also christened in the church also walk my mom down the aisle on her wedding day there's not much Farm left there now after 20 plus years the church is called Saint Edward's Church .

Another lovely day out with yourself and Logan . Very close to where we live in Bradford Abbas. Maybe you will do a walk there sometime. A lovely church and at nearby Wyke is an impressive Tithe Barn and a good pub back in Bradford Abbas for beer and crisps .

Did you spot any fish in the river? We used to swim in the river in the 80s... but it looks in a very poor health now. That large field you walked across along the Wriggle (the field just over the bridge) used to be an incredibly species rich meadow absolutely heaving with insects. Seems intensive agriculture has decimated alot of that habitat... all in the name of cheap milk.
@DaveFord

No, I don't remember seeing any fish. Thanks for sharing your memories and indeed thank you for watching.
