@@hajiranankoma4255 Wow! That’s unexpected. Fond memories of my time in Uganda back in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Thanks for sharing this. I am relocating here soon and wanted to learn a bit about Stowmarket's history. I'm planning on running this route at the weekend. 👍

Great to see an old photo of the Cattle market, my Grandad used to walk the cattle into the market.

@@Walksandwanders definitely! Recognised her straight away,and her voice. She's so like my late Aunty. Such a lovely lady. I have lived in Suffolk since I was 13, 39 years.

I absolutely love your videos, so informative! I would love to know more about Hill house I think it was called where the gates to the big house were on Bury Road: part of the building is still masonry I think. Keep doing what you’re doing. It is so interesting.

Yes I think there’s definitely a video in the Hill House history. There’s lots of ideas, just not enough time after the day job. But you have to earn some £ to live. 🙂

Ah glad you liked it. Still always mind boggling to me, that my little channel about an old bloke going for a walk, has so many viewers and reaches to Australia, USA, India, Germany and other places. Who knew?! 😀👍

Great video Don. I'll send to my dad. He played football on the old Cricket Meadow back in the 50s.

Wow. Hard for me to imagine the cattle market/ no Asda/ and the cricket meadow. So glad someone photographed these places and the history group collected them. I heard that as the pitch was on a slope, there was a definite advantage if you were the team playing downhill! Hope your dad likes the video. 🙂

I was about 6 when I lived at Chilton Hall (when it was a farm) 60 years ago. I remember the old cattle market though it's possible that it was the Ipswich cattle market.... I can't be certain. And as you'd presume I don't recall any of this walk!

The United Reformed Church has to be the ugliest post-war building in Stowmarket. It lacks any architectural merit, which can also be said for many buildings of this period.
@Walksandwanders11 ай бұрын
It was built in a strange architectural period where many churches and fire stations seemed to use this style. I guess there was a sense of post-war modernism that is also responsible for many parts of the high street being demolished and replaced with retail outlets in a similar style.
