@@WexPhotoVideo By far the most confusing part is the subject tracking. .The M-Fn2 button toggles the subject tracking on and off no matter if subject tracking is turned off in the menu. However, it appears to make a difference in how the subject tracking system works when its disable in the menu. Confusing as heck, but I'll eventually figure it out. This is probably the least intuitive part of the R3 (at least to me.)

Enjoyed the video... watched it few times as i was awaiting delivery of mine, and after the delivery. Preview AF in the pink menu 3 is basically continuously driving the lens focus motor to keep subjects generally in focus (even when not tracking them)... could be useful depending on the situation, for very fast action (although the camera is lightning fast) but one must consider that it will use up the battery quicker.

I got an R3 a few days ago and have really enjoyed using it. I've been working with the menu settings and customizing things. I did take notes from your video. I also hit the like button and subscribed. I hope you will be doing a video about the LAN and FTP connection and setup as well as a deep dive into that menu. I did find the bluetooth/wireless easy to use with the Canon app.

Thinking of replacing the 5D IV. It just plain works, but does have some limitations in todays world. Have lot's of EF glass, so I won't be changing brands. Looks like the R3 menu system is similar to the 5D, think I can handle that. Still kicking the R3 around. Won't be making a decision until April. This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for, the details. .. 😊

50:30 I can't see the "Preview Autofocus" which you promised...... But I found it in the manual; "This function keeps subjects generally in focus. The camera is ready to focus immediately when you press the shutter button halfway." So I am only guessing that the camera doesn't stop focussing even when you're not pressing the shutter button half way...

@30:48 JPEGs are NOT sRGB by nature. You have to set the color space for them otherwise the color values have no meaning.

My mistake apologies. The rest does stand true either way though. Whichever you use will be dependant on where the images will be used.

I will have thousands of 30fps bursts on my CF card and I want to review quickly. I noticed there was a jump by burst option. What if you could preview the burst by playing it back at 30fps like a movie? What if Canon coordinated with Adobe Bridge and you could organize and preview your bursts in the same way?

1:24:50 - For "6K RAW" is it downscaled in-camera to 4K? Is that why it still says "4K-D" when in the "6K RAW" mode? Have you checked to see if the actual recorded file is 6000 x 3164?

Hi Justin. It should have that feature. It will save your settings so you can jump back and fourth without altering those, however.

Sorry I wasn't clear on that, this can be done via the ethernet port and I believe via WiFi (as with 1dx series cameras) but not 100% on that.

So with the eye control AF, you need to calibrate in different lighting conditions AND manually switch between those profiles depending on what environment you’re shooting in?

Yes, ideally. You'd set up different profiles for different lighting environments and switch between them. Calibration only takes a minute or two.

It will work the same as any other EOS camera, it's just if it has a rubber seal for weather sealing on the hotshoe connection then it might not fit well, you can remove that and it'll fit, or use the adapter they will sell.

With respect: • Suggest that when using the overhead camera, set the camera on a table so it's not moving around. Also, set up some guides on the table so you know where to set the camera so it's centered. This would be similar to taping off marks on the floor so an actor would know where to stand. • Also, while using the overhead camera, pre-adjust so the subject (camera) nearly fills the frame instead of using only about 25% of the frame. • Considering a pointer instead of a fat thumb to point out items. This way we have a better idea knowing where you'e actually pointing and it helps to prevent your thumb from blocking our view of what you're pointing at. Your thumb is flitting all over the area very quickly making it difficult to see exactly what the thumb is pointing at. • Preplan the tutorial so you focus on specific items in order of importance. I'm only at 13 minutes but it seems like about a third of the tutorial has focused on videos--which would be a separate chapter. • Quit comparing the R3 with other models as if the viewer has already watched lengthy videos about cameras they do not own just to understand the point you're making. • Start from the beginning. I appreciate telling us what the various buttons are but pretend that we don't already know what these buttons do. You don't have to give a lengthy explanation but something more than just "this is the 'xyzzy' button would be helpful. Try asking yourself what you would want to know after taking the camera out of the box and start with those things. • Keep in mind that we're still trying to set up our new toy without having to read through the more than 1,000 page advanced manual. I'll watch the rest of this when I finish with the assignment sitting in front of me. In the mean time, I'll pull out the advanced manual to learn enough of the basics so I can use my new toy on this assignment. I appreciate these videos and thank you for putting them together. Please accept these suggestions NOT as complaints but as honest suggestions to help. One other suggestion, maybe you should try two lights off to the side instead of one very large light directly in front of you that reflects heavily in your eyeglasses. Just a thought.

Hey Streak - what are you shooting? I would say the A1 is a fantastic wildlife photography, whereas the R3 is very good for sports, press, weddings, etc. Both have great video functionality too!
