Welcome to Fort Drum. My husband and I were stationed up there. Ironically enough we lived in the monument ridge area off of Bastogne loop. The housing has come so far from when I was there. Lol. It's beautiful! All the best to you and your family 💕

Angie M Thank you! We actually lived here before, and the Army was so kind to send us back (< total sarcasm). Before we lived off post in Evans Mills, but we've been really enjoying living on post this time around! :)

We got to Fort Drum in 2016 and got a house exactly like this, looks nicer in the video. The house is freezing downstairs and we were on a first name basis with the repair staff while we lived there because just about everything was broke. They had to replace and repair appliances, and the upstairs toilet broke. The house down the street had its garage door cave in on their car. My friend lives near the dog park and she has had many issues and they do not always come and fix it right away. It took over a week for them to fix the toilet at our house. We ended up moving off post after a year of torture. We bought a home because it ended up being cheaper and now we have a warm living room and kitchen while still saving money from BAH (200 to 400 a month). Recently they found black mold on post to include the new homes, so be careful. It cost us to get out of housing, so if you could afford an alternative I would live off post. Evans Mills has a good Primary School and is close, Black River is really close and has some nice old homes. Watertown and Catharage are farther out but still options, Watertown has some sketchy areas though. On post or off, make sure your car has all-season tires or all wheel drive for the winter. The winter is long but you can make the best of it.

I agree with you on the downstairs being so cold! Definitely worth purchasing some space heaters for down there. Other than that we never experienced any issues.

this is one of the best military housing videos that i have seen on youtube~ not only that but i have not seen a lot of officer housing as well so thank you so much for this video! do you by any chance know what kind of housing a 1LT with just a wife and no children would get?
@keeganconnolly93314 жыл бұрын
You’d probably get a one/two bedroom house or apartment based on location and availability

This was extremely helpful! What neighborhood(s) would CGOs be placed in? (Adirondack Creek, Crescent Woods, Monument Ridge, Rhicard Hills) Is the house you're showing a duplex or is it single family? Do you have any insight to which ones are the "best"? Thank you again!
@kateschwanke8 жыл бұрын
Hello! I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your first question, but this home is attached to one other home on the opposite side, and I would say that Monument Ridge (where this one is located) is one of the best areas to live in on Post :)

Beautiful house! Are you carrying a large set piece as a purse? Makes a fabulous crossbody bag!
@kateschwanke9 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, I am wearing a Be Quick in the video :) I like them as my "purse" better than a Large Set Piece because they hold more

Hello Kate, my husband and I are PCS-ing to Fort Drum in July and we're beginning to work with housing to get set up in a home in the Monument Ridge community. We noticed that the housing website doesn't offer a ton of information or pictures, so your video was very helpful. Do you have any idea how many different floor plans there are for 3 bedroom 2.5 bath homes? We like your model better than the floor plan on the housing website, and are wondering what our chances of getting one like this is. It sounded like you said it was the crappy model, is that correct?

Hi! No, this was the Croppy model 😊

Hi! We are headed to Drum at the end of the month. We will not be on a waitlist for housing until next week and I love these Monument Ridge homes, but am wondering if you've seen the Crescent Woods homes. Can you give any insight on the layout of those for CGO housing? Thanks so much!
@kateschwanke9 жыл бұрын
Alexandra Stephens Sorry, I have no idea what the layout is on those homes. If you check the Fort Drum Community housing website they usually have floor plans up you can view for your hubby's rank :)

Do you know if the number of bdrms match the number of kids, or do they want u the kids to share? Seems like different posts have different rules. Thanks so much for the video btw been looking for more than the basic blueprint
@kateschwanke9 жыл бұрын
+danica turner I think that the number of bedrooms match the number of people. For instance you and your husband would be in one bedroom and if you have 2 kids they would each get their own room. So you should get a 3 bedroom place. That's how I believe it works up here, but I'm not sure if that's for everyone or just officers. Hope that helps :)
@danicaturner19359 жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding😀 we have three kids and he's a W2. As of right now we don't have official orders just been told there's a good chance we'll b there next summer. Thanks again for the info

Thanks for sharing. Very spacious. How long were you on the waiting list?
@kateschwanke9 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! We were on the waitlist for 53 days before getting housing. We had to stay at the Drum Inn for about a week, and then we lived in a furnished apartment until a few days before moving in to the on post housing.

kateschwanke My wife and I are going to be getting on the wait list when we PCS up to Drum next month for one of the CGO houses Overall, are you happy with your choice to live on post given what was available off post? As far as your temporary accommodations, which apartment were you staying at? I'm looking around for options for short term while I wait Thanks!
@kateschwanke9 жыл бұрын
trevor51590 Yes, we are very happy to live on post! This house is great and I love being so close to the clinic, PX and child care. I'm not sure what housing would be available to you, but this housing is very nice. There is also a lot of other housing which is not as nice, so if we were in one of those I'm not sure if I'd feel the same way. Before we finally got housing we were in a furnished apartment for a month and a half at Ontario Village Apartments in Watertown. For what we needed, it worked, which is pretty much all you need when you're waiting for housing. We have two children (4yrs and 10 months) so it was difficult living in such a small space for so long, but now that we're in this house it's so spacious I feel like I can finally breathe :)
