I would have recommended staying in The Witchery By The Castle....FAR more luxurious than the Balmoral Tim :) I've stayed in both several times....and hands down, the Witchery (for me) is the best in Edinburgh. Has a fab restaurant too....you might want to take Gabby with you though! It's a romantic gothic hideaway....feels very exclusive. They have about a dozen suites (My favourite so far has been the Semple Suite) you choose when you're booking on the website.

This hotel shows how nice a place can be when management and staff care about the hotel and their guests. It's impressive because they get everything people care about right. The touches they focus on to make the room and stay feel welcome and inviting, the care for cleanliness and keeping things well maintained... it's refreshing to see a place that is quality all the way through, and not just if you don't look too closely. This is a hotel where paying for anything feels justified.

My husband and I stayed there for a full week last March and I have to say it was our favorite hotel stay ever! Those whiskey fudge squares are amazing. Such a beautiful hotel. We stayed in several Castles while in the UK after our stay at The Balmoral. While each Castle had their own beauty and elegance, the accommodations paled in comparison to our stay at the Balmoral. Also the afternoon tea there is incredible, it’s only equal we found was at the Colonnades at the Senate Library. Well worth a visit.

We visited Scottland in '98 just about 6 months after Princess Dianas death. We traveled all through Scottland, visited many of the castles. Made our way up to Inverness. Saw Dunrobin Castle and took a tour, also swung by Balmoral Castle where people were still leaving bouquets of flowers at the gate there for the late Princess. I was so impressed by the history saved, stored and on display throughout. Loved our journey through the beautiful countryside. The people of Scottland were warm, friendly and inviting. We did take a tour of Edinburg Castle. I was in charge of the 8 MM Sony video camera but when we got home it appears I forgot to take the lens cap off during my recording. Pretty bummed about that. lol Thanks for your wonderful videos. Safe travels friend.

We stayed here. It was amazing. Our TV broke during our stay. Just stopped working and wouldn't start. We reported it and someone came up within 1 minute. We were sent to the bar for a free cocktail while they fixed it. When we went back to the room they had left a complimentary bottle of wine and a handwritten apology from the manager. Amazing service.

I treated myself to a stay in the Balmoral for one night before travelling down to Manchester by train for my brother's wedding in the early 1990s. It cost just over £100/110 for a room overlooking the courtyard and also a marble bathroom. I had an enormous salad dish in my room that evening costing only £7.50 or thereabouts as I was too shy to go down to the restaurant by myself. Superb service and the lovely thing was that the staff addressed me by name all the time. Marvellous experience for me!

😬😬A 5 star luxury hotel should not be ‘advising’ their customers to tip the staff…never mind how much. That’s just tacky. Presumably the staff are already being paid a good wage, so why stoop to begging tourists to top up their pay? It’s not the USA where staff are paid peanuts and have to rely on tips to avoid being homeless!

Recently found the channel and while I haven't watched everything, this might be the first hotel that just says "luxury" to me, in all the right ways. Friendly staff, cleanliness, quality and professionalism all around, all while maintaining its own sense of style, rather than the hotels you'd see in Dubai or some such that are trying too hard to make the "6-star hotel experience." This place feels naturally luxurious.

A most enjoyable video as always. As a Scottish ex-pat, I’m delighted to see that we can still get some things right in the “Old Country”. FYI, if fish is baked under salt you’re not expected to eat the crust, it’s there for decoration, and what you ate as a side dish was purée, not mashed potatoes which is what we eat with haggis. It’s odd that a former Michelin-starred restaurant got the amount of salt wrong, could there have been cheese mixed in with the potatoes? Here in Italy they add Parmesan along with the milk and cream. Keep up the good work…

I used to go with a girl from Cullen, she lived rural on a farm a few miles from town, in the shadow of Bin Hill. Beautiful place.

My ex-husband was in a Scottish regiment and had to stand guard at Edinburgh Castle. When he went to the canteen at lunchtime, he slipped on the slippery stones of the floor...fell on his back and his kilt flew up. At that moment he was the favourite photo subject. Of course, he wore his kilt the way a Scotsman wears it.😊

They will probably describe the music in the foyer as coming from a Clarsach rather than a harp. Far more relaxing than bagpipes! When my dad was a student in the 1970s, it (as the NB/North British Hotel) was still railway-owned. It was possible to access it from the station and use the bath/shower rooms (back then, some rooms were not ensuite).

I stayed at the Balmoral 25 years ago in summer. The heaters were on full. It was a sweat box! Everything was tartan - much more extreme than in your video. Even so, it really was a lovely old hotel.

This is probably one of the only videos you have done where I have not been horrified or disgusted, what a wonderful suite, it looked luxurious & cosy. The price is pretty crazy for one night, but what an experience.

By far, one of the cleanest, nicest hotels you have stayed in. I personally thought it was a good idea to be informed of the tip charge at the beginning in the fact you are aware of it as the stay progresses and you are ready to assess it at the end. Beautiful city

I just love to read comments from all over the world. The folks that visit your channel are always so lovely it seems. Writing to you from the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. We have some wonderful old hotels tucked away in these hills. Should you ever decide to visit the eastern US; would love to have you here. Tim, Gabby, and Casper, I almost feel like a family friend that travels with you all, and we missed gabby and Casper on this trip. Greetings to all, stay safe in your travels this holiday season. Sorry to run on a bit. this is the first time I’ve commented on your channel. Thank you for always taking us all along on your adventures!

I really liked this one Tim. Love the decor - - furniture, fabrics, books and colors. Cozy. The grand staircase and harp - - terrific. The castle next door, even better. This place ties with the Wynn in Vegas. Kudos.

I love Edinburgh. My maternal GreatGrandfather came from outside Edinburgh and he ended up in Ireland! I still have cousins there as a lot of the family moved back. We must have a weaknesses for rainy weather! However, Scotland is beautiful. I would love to stay in the Balmoral. Thanks for showing it.
