I stayed here a few years back, and was absolutely blown away. I felt that my cabin was one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, albeit much smaller than most rooms at land-based hotels. you had one of the gorgeous Duplex rooms, but I had the cheaper alternative, which is essentially a room with a window and ensuite bathroom - all just felt so premium!
@deborahsobel331410 ай бұрын
I guess I liked the weathered look of the teak. I think the room was beautiful; you can see the details matter to them from the branding to the office space. I think the view of the engine room was incredible. I think this ship is absolutely worth it. You showcase trips others are not profiling. 😊

Interesting - The front of a boat is called the bow, while the rear of a boat is called the stern. When looking towards the bow, the left-hand side of the boat is the port side. And starboard is the corresponding word for the right side of a boat. the bottom afa boat is the hull. There are lots of other "boat names." Todays' fun word is "Crisps". Actually, I think I have said this before, I like that word "Crisps." The bathtub caddy: the flip up is for a book/magazine/laptop

We actually spent a couple of nights on Fingal about 18 months ago, not in the two-floor room you occupied, but one of the larger one-floor rooms & it was pretty good overall. It was actually a return visit for me as I had spent around 3 nights on board in the mid-1960s as a child when it was obviously still a working ship. The food was very good, we had two breakfasts & dinner on one of the evenings. Definitely an enjoyable base when spending a few days in Edinburgh or nearby areas. Some friends did have their wedding on board last year, reserving the whole vessel for 2 nights for bride/groom & their wedding guests - I understand they had a great time. PS/ The deck did look in much better condition when we were there in mid-2022, I hope their maintenance schedules are not suffering & that the hotel revenues allows for timely refurbishment, it would be sad if not.

Hi tim Loved the boat. I wanted to go on a cruise when i was 60. Unfortunately, my husband passed and my daughter would not do a cruise, so an alternative had to be found. 2022, the Sunborn yacht hotel london royal Victoria dock was found totaly by accident. Summer 2023 we went and loved it. We had a room with a little balcony. It wasn't huge but big enough for us. I request extra pillows. They appeared while we were out looking around for a restaurant. We did not eat on The yacht it was a little exspensive. So we tried a local chinese. It was lovely . Next morning we went for breakfast, this was included in the price.like so many hotels , it was serve yourself. Food was good. A hearty breakfast was had. The staff were lovely and didn't mind having a chat. We wandered around the yacht taking pics before we left. I would stay again. But there are more new beautiful hotels to stay in, and we are working through a short list. Maybe you could do the royal horseguards hotel in London. Would love to see inside this one. Please.

You were right Tim you were stood at the Bow of the Ship the front of the Ship. I thought you were at the Stern (which is the back end of the Ship) I thought it looked like the rounded back end but it was rather a rounded Bow!⛴️ The bowels of the ship is the inners down below in a ship. I only know because I'm a Titanic Fan! I loved the Engine Room on display lovely polished glass! I loved this little Vessel I think she might be quite an old lady of the Sea, I bet she's sailed a bit then retired to the Dock. And it was a real picturesque Dock too with the Old Fashioned Lampost. The Olive Green Decor really looked very classy next to the shiny polished wood. And I liked the Vintage fixtures & fittings. The Bed looked very comfy & spread over 2 floors it was like cabin /Suite & it looked like you had the whole ship to yourself Tim! The Bathroom was amazing I don't like those top tables over the bath either Tim I don't know why it opened it looked like you could put your iPad or Tablet on it like a stand but I don't think that's what it's there for on a Bath!! The evening meal in the warm & welcoming Restaurant looked amazing I loved the Steak & Chips & the Starter Fish & Dessert all scrumptious! It's a perfect place to go for a mini break on a Winter Weekend or as you say Tim it's excellent for a intimate Wedding very romantic! And 22 cabin/suites like yours. I would of liked to stay there with you Tim in the nextdoor Cabin!! And I loved those Chocolates I think I might have pinched your choccies too🤣. As a former traveling sea vessel, the RYB may be one of the few floating hotels I'd be interested in visiting. If the SS Normandie (with interiors of French-style luxury) hadn't burned in the 1940s, that would be another one. Of course, the Titanic (or its sister ship the Britannic) would be the epitome. However, if it hadn't sunk in the first place, its legendary infamy wouldn't exist at all. The QE2, now in Dubai, reflects the late 1960s, so it's not as nice as the QM2 of 2004 is. The QM of the 1930s, moored in CA since 1967, is the original floating hotel & has the most old-time qualities. But it also needs the most work. Areas on the RYB like the room's porthole or the teak deck are child's play compared with worn-out areas throughout the QM. Maintenance would be even tougher if the weather around the QM were more like Scotland's or Florida's. When the QE from the 1930s was temporarily moored north of Miami, the tropical climate reportedly was really hard on the ship.
@gridley11 ай бұрын
LOL. D'oh! Sorry, I overlooked the part where you say the ship is the Fingal, not the nearby Royal Yacht Britannia. Since the 2 ships are so close (& advertised) together, I thought it was a given that the former vessel of the royal family was the floating hotel, not so much another nearby boat. The Fingal is still a really nice place, but staying where QE2 (the person, not the ocean liner) once traveled would have been a great conversation piece.
