EXT. JIM'S DRUG - DAY
The boys are walking down the street towards a drug store.
CARTMAN
Excuse me? Hello?! Can somebody tell me why we're going to Jim's Drug to buy Voltar Cards when Wall Mart has them for three bucks cheaper?
KYLE
Dude, I can't deal with Wall Mart right now my parents had me there for three hours last night!
But when the boys get to the store front, Jim is closing and locking the door with a 'Out of Business Sign on the Front'.
JIM OF JIM'S DRUG
Oh sorry boys... I'm going out of business.
KYLE
Why Mr. Farkel?
JIM OF JIM'S DRUG
I can't compete with Wall Mart's low prices. Everyone is shopping THERE now, and I can't make ends meet...
As Jim continues, Cartman takes out a violin and starts to play with his eyes closed.
JIM OF JIM'S DRUG (CONT'D)
I've got to sell the store, and try to find another line of work.
Cartman goes up to a really high note.
KYLE
Cartman, STOP IT!
CARTMAN
What, I just felt like playing a little violin, Kyle.
JIM OF JIM'S DRUG
I appreciate your business boys - but you'll have to try somewhere else in town.
Jim walks away crying.
JIM OF JIM'S DRUG (CONT'D)
(cries)
KYLE
See?! That sucks, dude.
CARTMAN
What, that's called PROGRESS, Kyle.
KYLE
Yeah but what about all the people getting laid off from the grocery stores and what about all the--
Cartman whips out his violin and starts playing again.
Kyle angrily grabs the violin from Cartman, breaks it in half and drops it to the ground.
Cartman stares down at his violin for a few seconds.
CARTMAN
Whatever, I can go get another one at Wall Mart. It was only five bucks.
Cartman sticks his middle finger in Kyle's face and walks away.
STAN
Come on, let's go to main street and support one of those stores.
EXT. SOUTH PARK AVENUE - DAY
The boys walk down the street, just outside of town. Suddenly they stop and look into camera.
KYLE
What the hell...?
REVERSE to a WIDE SHOT to show the perspective shot of South Park, except that it is a full blown Ghost Town.
INSERT - on one of the shops - looks like it has been abandoned for years with spider webs and creaking boards. A sign bangs in the wind against the door. CLOSED.
INSERT - Another shop - it's windows broken and boarded up.
INSERT - An old west style jail, with a handwritten CLOSED on it.
Back to a wide shot of the boys with the ghost town around them. A tumbleweed blows through frame.
The boys hear a noise like METAL SCRAPING. They jump a little and look to the distance where a shadow falls across the street.
In the distance, they see Butters (keep him small in frame) move like a rabid animal into the street.
BUTTERS
Gargghghg.... Grrrhghghgh....
STAN
Butters?
Butters raises his arms and hisses at the boys.
BUTTERS
Hrrhshssh!!!!
KYLE
Butters, what the hell are you doing?
BUTTERS
Wul, I'm just playin' monster. It's kinda spooky out here.
(playing again)
Hssssss!!! Garrshshghh!!!
STAN
Dude, we've got to show our parents what Wall Mart is doing to our town!
INT. STAN'S HOUSE - DAY
Stan's house is absolutely FILLED with groceries and items from Wall Mart. Stacks of toilet paper and paper towels. Plastic glasses and forks and knives. New lamps and camping equipment. Stan walks in with Kyle and Kenny behind him and is immediately covered by all the stacks of goods. He tries to work his way through.
STAN
Dad? Jesus Christ.... DAD?!
STAN'S DAD (V.O.)
Staaaaannn?
Stan finds his father propped up against a giant twelve pack of cereal boxes wrapped in plastic. He looks horribly sick with sores all over his face.
STAN
DAD! OH MY GOD!
STAN'S DAD
Staaaaan...
STAN
Wha- dad - ARE YOU DYING?!
STAN'S DAD
No, I'm just... really, really tired. I was shopping at Wall Mart all night.
STAN
But your face?!
STAN'S DAD
In the checkout line... They had these... little stickers filled with glitter.
Stan's dad holds up the packaging of the little glitter stickers with the three on his face obviously gone.
STAN'S DAD (CONT'D)
They were only ninety-nine cents for fifteen of them! I couldn't resist. Do you want one? Here...
He places a single sticker on Stan's cheek.
STAN'S DAD (CONT'D)
It's a little turtle. Ergghghg....
Stan's dad passes out.

And then Walmart tried Germany. And ran into the fact that they actually had to pay employees for their work, Germans found the fake friendliness and … the greeter … rather creepy (which of course, it is), and, oh yes, Germany has laws in place to prevent unfair business practices like undercutting prices of essential goods which, in Walmart's home market, put smaller shops out of business. Seems they are not doing so great when they can't just bully everybody out of their money. But I heard Aldi, the German discounter, is now in the U.S. And doing great. Who would have thought?
@joelmartin2549
@joelmartin2549 2 жыл бұрын
I think it had more to do with loyalty oh and nationalism, when you’ve shopped at the same small grocery for 4 generations you’re not gonna switch to the new foreign store in town. In comparison American tend to be very open to foreign business and in fact self-loathing and almost worshipful of other cultures.
@mediocreman6323
@mediocreman6323 2 жыл бұрын
@@joelmartin2549 - You don't understand, in countries like Germany it is _against the law_ to e.g. use dumping prices to put the smaller competition out of business and so on, it was not the customers, it was legislation that prevented Walmart from using those dirty practices. Companies like Aldi - who also wreck small local shops - flourish in Germany. But Aldi's philosophy is different, it is about low prices for high quality products through most brutal efficiency (btw, Aldi's staff is paid well!), and not Walmart's approach to just destroy the competition, lull the customer by fake friendliness, and by basically enslaving their staff - Walmart is doing great in countries like communist China, while in Germany [I just looked it up] even their “ethics code” was struck down in court. In short: When fairplay is not just a good idea, but a legal mandate, Walmart fails.
@georgemorley1029
@georgemorley1029 2 жыл бұрын
@@mediocreman6323 Aldi undercuts competitors on price by only offering a limited range of items to the consumer. They can sell what they sell cheaper because they only stock a small selection of things. This means they can bring those limited item ranges to market cheaper than stores that have a wider range with subsequently larger overheads and supply chain costs. You can get 100% of what you want at 100% price at other stores, but you can get maybe 70% of what you want at Aldi for about 80-90% of the price. This is what happens in U.K. shopping. People stock up bulk items that they care less about at Aldi for pennies and then fill in the gaps in their shopping at Tesco, Sainsbury or Marks and Spencer. Aldi are not doing this because they are morally virtuous. They’re taking a decision to corner elements of the market where they can win and make profit. It’s not because they like people any more than Walmart or any other retailer for that matter. They only want money. They may take different routes to get there in different jurisdictions but there’s nothing moral about it with any of these retailers. It’s purely business.
@mediocreman6323
@mediocreman6323 2 жыл бұрын
@@georgemorley1029 - yep. It is a business. But behind every business there is a business-philosophy. And that of Aldi can be condensed into one word: Efficiency. They pay their staff more than the competition and are keen to create a good working environment, because it ensures loyalty and that people put more effort into their work. It is more efficient that way. They do not offer everything because it would be less efficient. And so on. In total, you get a business model that is tough as nails and hard to compete with. Which is the idea. And it works. As for Walmart, well, if they cannot hustle their competition, they are pretty much done for. Which is why they succeed in totalitarian countries like China and anarchic (=without actual laws) like the U.S.A., but did _not_ succeed in Germany.

The name of this episode, "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes," is related to the play named "Macbeth" that was made by William Shakespeare. Tbh all the small shops in my town go put of buisness because everything they sell is literally overpriced so everyone goes to walmart. You just feel scammed after shopping locally unfortunately.

Actually Walmart can afford to sell those products at a lower price or even a loss because of how big they are, so they do. Thereby killing small businesses and dominating the market, Amazon does the same thing just online.

They sell at that rate to break even and keep the lights on. Walmart has a bigger inventory to make up for the losses incurred.

I remember going to Walmart and there were countless items on shelves that didn’t belong, it was so unorganized. Then there was shampoo in puddles in several spots all over the floor that my friend slipped it. Never went back to Walmart again.
