In this video, I show how to attach a king size headboard to the wall using a couple of toggle bolts. Most videos use a french cleat to mount a headboard to the wall, but this approach is much easier, cheaper, and it requires no drilling into the headboard.

My husband and I just finished attaching our headboard to the wall using your instructions. It saved us the time from trial and error. We got through the whole installation without an argument! Thank you so much for such clear instructions.

I searched the internet for alternatives to remount our headboard to the wall. Our first attempt several years ago was not our best attempt, so we wanted to redo it. We found your suggestion to be the best because we also used toggle bolts on our first attempt. However, your reverse use of the toggle bolts is genius. In the final finish, we noticed that the bolt end would hit our mattress, so we decided to cut the bolts shorter and then we added rubber tips that you can find in the hardware drawers at Lowe's and slipped them over the cut bolt ends. If I could add a photo of them, it would be great for everyone to see. It looked really professional. This remount took about an hour - so thanks for putting this great video on the internet!

So just mounted ours and used this video for inspiration. However I would suggest using a 1/4-20 toggler brand wall fastner instead. They allow the bolt to bold directly into the wall and can be removed for cleaning etc but won’t have the threads sticking out like this method will.

Hi HD. Thanks for your great Idea. When my wall mounting is finished, I'll be pushing a new-to-arrive king size platform frame against my wrought iron/brass headboard (currently attached to a basic metal frame) after I have attached the the headboard using your technique. (1) Do I have to worry about accidentally, or possibly through wear over time, having my wood platform push the headboard loose from the wall because the wall bottom molding makes the headboard leaning slightlytoward the back wall, which at the floor may be 1/2"-1" out from the wall (in my case: 1/2" thick skirting molding plus 1/2" quarter round trim molding on top of it)? (2) Each of my wrought iron headboard legs have two screw holes about 6" apart. Should I use only one screw per leg or use 2 screws per leg? I saw you also have more holes in each leg but only used one hole to fasten. Has this proved enough tightness? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. BTW you did a great job in making a clear and effective tutorial video. I can't imagine it being any better, and it's the only one I saw that had a method that could be used with my wrought iron situation rather than the more usual solid back.

I have a king size foam mattress. It’s friggin heavy and the bed barely moves under ANY circumstances. So we didn’t attach the headboard to the wall right away. It was just wedged by the bed. But it didn’t stay flat so I added the toggle bolts. It’s impossible for me to say if one bolt will be enough for yours, but all I can say is try it. The other advice would be to use a different kind of toggle bolt. Google “snaptoggle”. They’re better because you can unscrew it without losing the bolt in the wall.

Great reply. You came up with an even better idea to use Snaptoggle fasteners. I never used them before but definitely will use them for this project. You just made an already great YT video problem solution even better with your suggestion to use Snaptoggles. Thanks again. Subscribed! @@handydadtv

So what if your having vigorous motion in the bed will it slide around since the bed frame is not attached to the wall? Just wondering . They should make brackets that you can take the wheels off your bed and put a bracket in so you could Mount the frame to the floor itself.
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you should just put the mattress right on the floor. Why risk scratching your floors and breaking the bed with all that vigor.

My headboard would be up against a window, would that make a difference? I see that at the end your headboard is flush against the wall and I’m wondering if my windows will make a difference with mounting it to the wall

Naw. The bed frame isn't square. you need to reinforce the headboard to compensate for the gap created by the baseboard trim. This is how and why your headboard hits the wall during coitus!
