Thank you just found this video. I'll take it a step further and add that pets are much more sensitive than their people to scents and some are even toxic. Cats are especially vulnerable to tea tree and lots of others, but there's no nos for dogs too. Anybody with indoor pets should do a search on essential oils and cats/dogs. I use sweet almond oil for a carrier because it's usually the cheapest and easily found at discount stores and won't burn even when exposed to direct flame.

I watched this video and was able to refill 3 wallflowers. 2 are going just fine and smell amazing. However one, was so potent for 3 days and then the whole thing was empty after a week. Did I do something wrong? I feel like I wasted the essential oil because it only lasted a week. Have you ever experienced this? Thank you for any help! And for this video!
@ReMadeWithLove2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stormy, I'm glad you are having success with the wallflower hack, but curious about the fail. I wonder if its the plug rather than the refilled wallflower as you said it really smelled overpowering (the others didn't) and it was empty after a week (and the others weren't). If all three were filled with the same mix from the same batch then it stands to reason it wasn't the mix. Could it be that that wall plug generates more current than the others? My husband says that's not how he thinks, but he says it was probably the wallflower rather than the current, and that it was running too hot. He says, "just like everything that's electrical at some point they fail", so he thinks it's the device or appliance (the plug-in). I'd toss the one that failed and if you have another empty wallflower fill it instead.

Nice video. I am curious if you can help answer a question. I have a ton of the bottles of home fragrance oil from white barn candle co. (BBW) that are used in a ceramic burner with a tea light candle. You place a few drops in the burner bowl and the heat from the candle flame underneath it dispenses the scent into the air. Can these be poured into the wallflower to refill it? I like constant scent as opposed to having it in increments with the tea light method. I hope i explained this well enough. Thanks for the detailed video on the process.
@ReMadeWithLove3 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura! I was advised that fragrances you put in a burner bowl and heat with a candle would be the same inhalation as if mixed with a carrier oil and plugged in. The heat is so low with the plug in unit that it warms the oils continuously. You should find the carrier oil and find the right mix for you!

Can I use reed diffuser oil?
@ReMadeWithLove Жыл бұрын
Hi @tavery1981, I've done some research on reed diffuser oils and here is what I've found: Reed oils are thinned (as much as 3 times) due to the need to be wicked up by the reed which is very porous and uses a cold diffusing method. Plug in oils need to be thicker, and use a different carrier oil. (reeddiffusers.org) Some sites state that some reed diffuser oils also include alcohol which in a heated plus-in type would rapidly evaporate the fragrance and possibly pose some risk to the device as well as a potential lower flashpoint.

Hi Tracy, that is a great question, and one I don't have a definitive answer to! I've tried a little research but have found nothing in writing that confirms why this is. So, I can only use conjecture: could it be because the additives in glade plug-ins help suspend/diffuse the scent? @ReMadeWithLove2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, Hmmmmmm. I know perfumes are meant to be inhaled, but don’t know if putting them into a warming device is the best. Would too much be released? Would the alcohol present cause and adverse reaction when warmed and constantly being released? This is a good question to do some research on. Doing a quick search I have yet to find a scientific study or chemical study telling me it’s safe and the percentages to use, but I’ll dig deeper and post here if I find some - you ( and others) can do the same. I’d like to share that info. I did find this REMARK( again not from a verifiable source), “Dilute your perfume in the bottle using 3 to 4 drops of perfume per 1/2 cup of water. You can also add 3 drops of an unscented essential oil, such as jojoba oil to this mixture.” That’s from hunker.com My thoughts are I need to do more research and use a variety of verifiable resources before I’d add it to a wallflower and use it in my home.

@@ReMadeWithLove Hi. I love that you're doing research before recommending anything. I would recommend against using any perfume or fragrance that is not originally meant to be difused with heat (some fragrances' chemical composition will break down with heat and may produce harmful fumes), unless you can be certain of the ingredients and you know what you are doing. Something important is that ALL essential oils (which aren't really oils, but distilled compounds from plants) are scented. If an oil is unscented, it is NOT an EO but a carrier oil (jojoba, grape seed, almond, olive, etc. are all carrier oils). There are some plants (like vanilla and rose) from which EO cannot be extracted; what is commonly known as EOs from these plants are actually "absolutes", which are carrier oils infused with the target plant. I hope my comments can prove useful to you :)

Using vegetable oil as a carrier for your scent is not a good idea as it's a heavy cooking oil that will gum up any surface that is close to the plug area. It also doesn't let the scent come through as it is heavily scented on its own. Vegetable oils also go rancid faster than other carrier oils. Vanilla extract is not an essential oil, so you've got additives which may act/react differently than essential oils, same as cooking oil does.

I have tried to different carrier oils, Grape seed and fraction Coconut oil. I have tried different measurements and my refills still does not smell. I have used from 10-30 drops and they still do not smell. I have decreased the carrier oils and increased the essential oil and they still don’t smell. I always clean my plug in jar and I boil them. I also use new wicks every time. Please help I don’t know what to do and I can’t afford replacements from Bath and Body Works. Have a great day. I have used Cinnamon, Lavender and Lilac

Honestly I don’t think the nail is needed. It’s a BBW thing they do to keep people from trying to remove the wick and do exactly what your video is explaining. Only reason I say that is all the other oil refills I’ve bought that aren’t BBW don’t have the nail.

Yes - I felt the same. Once you have the wick in you can maneuver it to be longer or shorter, but the wick won’t move on its own.

Where do you get the refill wicks?
@ReMadeWithLove2 жыл бұрын
Try searching for the following: 1) if you prefer PET (synthetic) search in your browser “Essential Oil Wick Diffuser Replacement Stick 10 Wicks Sponges Refill” And, if you prefer cotton wicks search for something like “Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick. Those should lead you to sources for both and will fit in the wallflower unit. I don’t receive anything from these vendors - just wanted to pass along my info.

For wicks that are made of PET (synthetic) you can try something like Essential Oil Wick Diffuser Replacement Stick 10 Wicks Sponges Refill (copy and put those words in your search engine) which will work. If you prefer cotton, try something like Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick (copy and place in search engine). I preferred cotton.

I made these with coconut oil (internet says a good carrier oil) and mine don’t work. They don’t release any smell out of them. Did I do something wrong?
@ReMadeWithLove Жыл бұрын
Did you rinse the old bottle? Use new wicks? Which essential oils did you use? There is a point when the original wallflowers stop working (something in the heating element??), but if you are using the quality items mentioned, it should work - unless your wallflower base has stopped working.😔 I’ve read that fractionated coconut oil has been used with essential oils safely, but only in a non-heated (non-wallflower) venue.

this doesn't work. if you have suggestions please reply.. watched the vid. I have a bunch of empty bath and body works bulbs. Got the grapeseed , a few different essential oils, water. tried a few ratios and the mix doesn't evaporate through the wick. weeks later the oil/ water lever is the same.

@@mrda100 hmmmmmmm. I’m so sorry you’ve not achieved good results. I’ve used this process over and over with successful results. You’re using their wallflower base? You’re using a quality oil? @mrda1003 ай бұрын
@@ReMadeWithLove yes. New wick and your recepie. What I did find to work well yesterday is 1/3 alcohol. 1/3 water and the rest the oils of my choice. this allows the essential oils to thin out and wick. The grapeseed oil just doesn't evaporate imho.

Selina, I'm not at home right now, so I can't look at what I use, but if you want a cotton wick try checking online (Binhai carries some that should fit ...Binhai 30-Pack Car Humidifier Sticks Cotton Filter Refill Sticks Filter Replacement Wick). There are PE/PET filters that are synthetic and have plastics in them that are also prevalent on the market.

Jennifer...I'm so sorry this happened. I'm wondering if your wallflower plug-in units are too old. I have found that some of mine have stopped working. Google 'do wallflower units stop giving off smell?' and you'll find numerous complaints about the units not giving off the fragrance anymore. I hope you try again and have better results.

Why not use water instead of a carrier oil? Essential oil are usually water based that is why you can use them by just putting a couple drops in the water pot of a diffuser.
@ReMadeWithLove11 ай бұрын
From my understanding essential oils are an oil. To become a water-based essential oil (?) they have to change the chemistry and add chemicals to make it water soluble. When reusing a wallflower (or using this wallflower hack) I’m wanting to plug it into a wall outlet and have prolonged, consistent dispersal of the aroma. Since oil and water don’t mix unless emulsified, even if it is temporary, using water as the carrier would not ensure a continuous aroma. The essential oil would gather in one area and either disperse all at once or only after the water has evaporated, not giving you a continuous aroma.

I have not had success in the scent after refill, I can’t smell it
@ReMadeWithLove11 ай бұрын
Oh no! You can adjust the amount of scented oil higher, if you’d like. Also, these will be a gentler fragrance than the industrially produced commercial fragrances, but should still give your rooms a lovely scent. Question: after you open the bottle of the essential oils how easy is it to smell?

Great question: why not? You can, but sometimes the scents are not the same and actually compete with each other. If the wick is pretty 'clean', and the old scent is complimentary to the new, go for it!

@ReMadeWithLove11 ай бұрын
Haha! I hope not!! I like to suggest searches for several reasons: first, because I think each of us should decide what they want their wicks made out of (cotton or PET), second, because I’m not endorsing any particular brand, and third, sometimes the links I’ve offered in the past don’t work anymore.
