LOL! A woman after my heart, you want it all. I guess I better get busy. I wish I had time to make more than 1 per month, but I am doing the best I can. My hardest decision now, is what to make next. I listen to my viewers and want to keep you happy. My next video is going to be some sort of disappearing 9 -Patch (or an unusual variation), based on viewer requests. Based on these requests, April is going to be a little more complex. Hope you like it. 😁

Once again, you’ve done a great explanation of how to build your quilt! I’m not a fan of using eighth measurements, but your beautiful quilts are pushing me out of my comfort zone. Yes to all your offerings! I’ll watch them all💕
@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter 2 жыл бұрын
I am so happy that you like the videos. I understand about the 1/8" measurements but in order to use a charm pack or layer cake that is what is necessary to make the sub-blocks perfectly square. You can use different sized HST Blocks (see the chart on my website: questioningquilter.com/chart/) so that the cutting measurement are easier. For example if you start with 6 3/4" squares, turned into HST Blocks trimmed to 6 1/4". You would cut 2" from the center seam and end up with a block that is 11" unfinished and 10 1/2" finished. This quilt would then be 63" X 63". Thanks for watching.

A little of both it is. The quilts so far have been very simple. Hopefully I can start making some of them a little more complex. This design was a test to see if two different blocks in one quilt would cause a problem. It seems like you are up to the challenge! Thanks for giving me this feedback.

@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking, that if people want more complex I would slowly increase the complexity, the first one showing positive and negative images, then moving on to mirror image blocks. I am not sure about what you mean by making them a series. Do you mean that I should label it differently than the ones I am doing now? I am afraid that if I put a number on the title of the quilt, it might stop someone from clicking on the thumbnail. Can you give me a little more information about what you mean. You can answer here, or email me. I take the comments by my viewer very seriously. You are the reason I am doing this.

@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the mirror and photo negative options mean that there are a whole lot more different ways the blocks can be arranged to make beautiful quilts. The negative image is where the light and dark blocks are reversed. I show a quick example of this in at the end of the Jubilee video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKu8p6aNbbSWhbc I am thinking that April's video will have positive and negative images in one quilt.

I am really learning as I go. Thank you so much for commenting on this. It has been a lot of work and the appreciation really makes me feel good. What to wear is always a question. When I wear solid, or near solid colors some people comment that it is too dull. LOL Right now I am just going through my closet trying not to wear the same thing twice. Hopefully winter is almost over and I have a few nice blouses to wear for the summer.

Welp, I concede. These blocks are some of the hardest, worst ones I have ever made. The center seam of the pinwheels is so built up that when I get to the point of cutting the 1 3/8” away from the center seam, it *looks* right, but then repiecing it…. I have fifteen blocks that are all failures. Everything comes out wonky. In some places the cut is so off that there is no seam allowance to piece with. I have a perfect block when I start - when it’s still a pinwheel - and then it all goes to hell. I give up.
@QuestioningQuilter

I am so sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. If you want to give it one more go, please email me with pictures of what you have so far and I can probably see what is going on and help you get it right. This goes for anyone else having troubles. My email is: brita@questioningquilter.com There are a couple of things you can try to reduce the bulk in the center. 1. There is a technique called either pinwheeling, fanning, popping or spinning the back of the seam. I didn't spend a lot of time looking, but here is a video that demonstrates the technique. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHmum2hqZ6x3fKs I usually use a seam ripper, but her method will also work. 2. I use a tailor's clapper. My husband made me one out of wood, but basically it is just a weight to hold the fabric in place after pressing. Since the fabric cools while it is held down, it is less likely to spring back. You don't have to go out and buy one, a fat book will work just fine. Please let me know how I can help you.

I think once a month you could do a more complicated block for the advanced quilters. The mirror image/Positive negative would be fantastic. But I also love the simplicity of what you do now and then showing us all the variations. You’re one of my favorite KZbin channels to watch. Thank you for all the time and effort you put in to your videos and your quilts and your graphics.

Thank you so much! There are so many quilting channels it is exciting to think I rank near the top for you. Especially since so many of them are created by professional with real studios and assistants to help make the quilts. I am just a grandma, working out of the spare room over the garage. It means so much to me that you can see how much work these videos are. Kind words from people like you make it all worthwhile.

Wow, another wonderful idea!! I don't use the 8 HST method because of the bias...but I am going to try it with 5" squares and see what happens. Thanks so much!!
@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter 2 жыл бұрын
This method doesn't have a bias. You are probably thinking about the method where you make 4 HST's from a Layer Cake. In the 4 HST method you sew around the edges (the straight grain) then cut the block and are left with bias edges all around. For the 8 HST method, imagine four charms laid out in a 2 by 2 grid. You are sewing down either side of the center and cutting after it is sewn. Just like you do with the 5" squares. All of the raw edges are straight with the grain of the fabric. It will of course work with 5" squares as well.

@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Heather, I certainly understand your feelings. The Whirlygig block by itself does look vaguely like that. Truthfully, all pinwheel blocks have a little bit of that look. I intentionally made the pinwheels go the direction they do so that the rectangle bars go the opposite direction of the hate symbol. I think that the image is most noticeable when the block is by itself, but when the quilt is put together I think that that image is lost. Especially, in the quilts that are made entirely of the Whrilygig blocks. They don't look that way at all to me. If you notice, when I did the red, white and blue version, I said that it didn't look good with the colors on diagonal. That is because, in that layout the individual blocks were highlighted and had that disturbing look. I certainly didn't mean any offence when making this quilt, and I wouldn't want you to make any sort of design that makes you feel uncomfortable.
