Most new builds these days have silicone applied round all the windows internally. I often find the silicone pulls the paint off the fresh plaster. The reason for this is because the fresh plaster has not had a mist coat around the window reveal, it should be cut in right up againt the frame.
@losttheplot2611 ай бұрын
Depends on the sleeve. Can go 18" rolling out is quick. Manufacturers say mist coat with the same top coat instead of trade matt now. Doesn't matter for new plots. Dulux heritage say sand down previous paint before applying.
@JoeProDecor3 жыл бұрын
Great, no nonsense video......ive seen quite a few videos on this subject with Dec's applying the mist coat as though it's a finish..lol....introducing steps that are a waste of time, as we all know it's rare to have a new plaster job that is without any need for snagging/fine filling. I simply apply the mist coat to seal the porous surface and to highlight the areas that need repairing.

Hi candleman, what paint did you use for the bare plaster, dulux trade?? also was it a 10 ltr tub or 15 ltr tub?? then the 3 ltrs of water to water it down so it soaks in, good tip, thanks i am learning a lot from you, if you get to paint the top coat on this room you have missed coat, would you give 1 or 2 top coats,? and what brand of emulsion do you like the best, and what would be your 2nd choice if on a budget......thanks kevin

Hi Mark, Great work. Could you please advise what is the best thing to do with PVA stains on the freshly plastered walls? My plasterers decided to do the ceilings last which has left splashes of bonding coat on the walls and is now showing through even after the second emulsion coat, which is very frustrating! We sanded it slightly and prepped the walls but no difference! Your comment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I used Dulux plaster sealer on our new conservatory and the subsequent paint finish has lasted really well (years now) and looks nice. I imagine it to be PVA based though not sure. So question is why not just use very dilute PVA? If dilute enough, it doesn't leave a film but does seal for painting.

Hi Mark, I'm currently painting my own house inside. I have the same purdy pole you're using and Hamilton perfection medium pile sleeve (i was suggested these) I noticed every time you finished rolling and you go to get some new paint on the roller, your sleeve is always looking fluffy, like it's carrying alot of paint. When i finished rolling a wall and i go to get put paint onto my sleeve, it seems like the sleeve is compacted and not fluffy. It's not due to paint still being in the sleeve because when i'm rolling the wall there is no more paint coming off the sleeve onto the wall. Any suggestions to why?
@EmiMartinezVillaLegend2 жыл бұрын
The pile of the sleeve you’re using is to small, I’m a new building house painter & we would never dream of using those sleeves you used on your home for the simple reason they don’t hold enough paint

It's 10-litre tubs - he's a pro, so we should assume he doesn't use consumer-size 5l tins, but he does actually confirm it below. Therefore, he is talking about a mix of at least 30% water. Some pros say 20%, some say 50%, so that seems like a good compromise.
