My childhood sweetheart (he met me at 8 days old when he was four) and I were separated by my mother, deliberately and cruelly when we were inseperable preschooler friends. We met up with each other about 12 years ago after almost 60 years. We chose not to be anything but friends since no one wants to inflict pain on families for what might have been, and now is not possible.

Everything happens for a reason. If Edward had not met Wallis and abdicated, World War II with him on the throne might have led to a very different outcome for Britain. You must remember that being born with a silver spoon on his mouth is an understatement. He was heir from infancy, and only knew a life where people served him. For somebody to boss him around and bully him. You can only imagine the intense sexual gratification that must have given him.

After the horrible WWI, for which Edward was a veteran, Europe was ready for reformation and enjoying life again. Edward said WWI was his great education. Our comments might be a bit superficial! Recent documents, are proving there was definitely a conspiracy against Edward; including, to show everything he did in a negative light. Interestingly, the great leader Attila the Hun once said: "If you want to fall in love, get yourself a dog." Although, True Love always conquers in the end...remember how logical your actions were with your first love?! Actually, documents today reveal the people of the British Empire would have accepted Edward's morganatic marriage, because he was enormously popular with the people; however, the "establishment" lied to him and said they wouldn't -- conspiracy!

Yes it was this twice divorcee American who had captured the heart of the Prince of Wales who was the eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary. But Wallis Simpson was an innocent party when the abdication crisis broke out in December 1936 when King Edward VIII just months into his kingship broke down and announced to his subjects,"that I could not carry out my duties and responsibilities as King without the woman I loved." So finally King Edward VIII had abdicated but then the crisis had rocked the British throne in the months leading to the abdication. Wallis had to bear the brunt of attacks for it was she who had been the caused of the crisis.

See, abdication was one of his best decisions, especially for a man who couldn't make... any good decisions. He could only fall down the steps, not walk up. He is a study of a real human being, subject totally, to his genetics, bad habits, and emotional frailty, with no abilities to reflect nor to understand or estimate the character of others. He changed those around him by holding them captive, stalking for years no matter what they did to get rid of him. Then he was bound to have an end like this although he was true to himself and his nature. A person like this survives but rarely learns and due to his spontaneous un-decisions, is hard to love forever. The world is just unkind enough to devour them although they constantly try to fit in somewhere. Wallis ruined her own life by not moving far, far away, thus she became hard and bitter, understandably. It was another way to cope but not the best choice either. She should have stayed away longer, buying hats, in Paris. Even if she moved there he would have followed. That is not love, but a disability.

In reading about Edward VIII, I noticed that as the Prince of Wales, he tended to "date" married women. You have to wonder if he was trying to avoid attachments to any that would have led to marriage (though they would not have been found acceptable by his parents, the King and Queen, and the British government). But apparently he was getting some need met by Wallis that others had not met, resulting him becoming so besotted with her that he abdicated (one has to wonder if he never actually wanted to be King but felt trapped by his birth. Wallis was the excuse to shuck it all and continue to live a life of privilege and parties).

The truth of those who said love is blind. Edward VIII chose between his heart and his position, so he chose his heart. It does not appear through his biography that he regretted his decision.
