Another beautiful and inspiring video! You are giving me a mile long list of places I want to go explore.

We were supposed to head down there last summer, but sadly, it did not work out. Thanks for sharing!

Bummer! Maybe this upcoming summer.

"My car was still there." 😆Real. Also, ice cold backcountry lemonade sounds amazing! I tend to pack the number of meals we plan for, but go a bit extra on the snacks in case we take more time or I end up hungrier than planned.

Yes, it's always a relief when you get done with a 5 day backpacking trip and the car is still there and unharmed.

Well, that was a wild ride. Thanks for sharing the video. We’re planning our hiking trips for this coming summer and the two big ones we were debating doing is between the wallowas or sawtooth loop in Idaho, so this is helpful!

You should watch my other wallowas videos. There are so many epic places to hike there that aren’t this crazy and not maintained. Although I would never stop someone from going to the sawtooths either, I’ve heard amazing things and seen photos.

Definitely try to pack one extra meal on trips. Gives a little piece of mind if something happens and I’ve got to spend extra time out. Great trip! Thanks for sharing.

Yes I do this now. I pack extra snacks and an extra lunch meal.

Another great video. We did a day hike down the Horse Ranch Trail to the Minam River on 7/11/2022. I keep thinking that someday we'll cross paths on a trail (we're in Salem). We always wind up with extra food even though I try not to since I'd rather not pack around unnecessary weight.

That’s funny! We will likely run into each other one of these days.

Stunning trip! Many years ago we did the Lostine trail to Mirror Lake and camped for 5 days. It was breathtaking. We can't hike like that any more as we've aged (63 and 70) and our bodies just can't handle heavy backpacks and also I was finely done sleeping on the hard ground. But we still do day hikes and a whole lot of 4 x 4 truck into hard to get beautiful locations and set up camp for a week. We live in Eugene and recently have been talking about exploring the Wallowas again. But we now have "Fire Season" which really limits our outings and sadly has burned some of our favorite places.

I have to force myself to eat on the trail. I never get hungry

I hear that from a lot of folks.

Looks like you had a better trip than mine. I was actually there on July 1st to the 2nd. I started at Buck creek and found snow at 6500 ft. Up and over into the meadows still saw me slipping and sliding on the down slopes (snow). I stayed at Tombstone lake (which was ice free), there was about 20% snow still on the ground. My original loop had me getting as high as 8000 ft, but it would have been on snowy slopes for at least a half or more than a mile trying to get to echo lake. So I bailed on a trip I was really looking forward to. End up going to Washington and lower elevation Cascades. But given how beautiful it was, I will return.

Yea that year had more snow than the two years prior. It’s always hard to know.

Well congrats on making it back. You mentioned a storm coming in at one point and I heard thunder but I guess it didn't amount to much? Anyway cool video

The storm wasn’t bad. Thundered for about an hour.

The first part of the trail to Mud Spring doesn't appear to have been maintained since the 1960s. That's when the trail was dropped from maps. Nice scenery though. If I was still young enough to hike, I would do the full loop. 😎👍
@HikeOregon28 күн бұрын
The trail was on our Green Trails map, otherwise we would have never made this a loop.

@@HikeOregon Okay thanks. I found the it on an old topo map from 1967. It was labeled Salt Pack Trail. But it doesn't show up on topo maps after that. That's why I figure it hasn't been maintained since the 1960s. You can find a lot of good stuff on old topo maps. Anyway it was a nice adventure for you.
