People report that walnut requires 2 coats of rubio despite it being a monocoat. Other materials like white oak will suffice with 1.

It doesn't "require" two coats, people have chosen to give it two coats because they like the way it looks. I have found that if you just use the Maintenance Oil you get the same effect as a second coat.

Did it hide your 120grit scratches or can you still see them?

To be honest I don't remember and the table sold some time ago. I say in the video that they were still visible before I added the oil and I don't think the oil will hide those scratches. I have since moved up to sanding with 180 before putting the rubio monocoat on. It's still my preferred finish with the maintenance oil. Thanks for watching!

Just did a 7' walnut console table with Rubio + 2c and it came out gorgeous. After watching a bunch of videos on its application, I opted to sand up to 180. The trick i found is to sand up to whatever grit you're going to with your rotary sander, water pop the grain, the hand sand the roughness back down. The hand sanding will take out any pigtails. It was my first time using Rubio and I'm glad I ponied up for it. Blacktail Studios has alot of great videos using Rubio. Regardless, Nice job on your table 👌.
