I am new to your channel and have subscribed and liked. Two questions: (1) Did you make the wooden stick wall art to the left of this project, and do you have a video of it? (2) where do I go to buy one of your mallets?

Hi Susan! Thank you and welcome, I did make the stick art but that was before I was making videos. I made it out of scrap wood. Started by making a frame with 4 pieces. The two horizontal pieces I off set. Then I just took a bunch of random pieces and glued and pin nailed them together. I am sold out of mallets at the moment but if you send me an email we can discuss what you would like and I would be happy to make one for you. I might try to do a small scrap art piece that is similar and make a video some time.

When you ripped the walnut on the band saw, how thick was the piece and then how much did you end up taking off with the drum sander? So what was the final thickness?

I cut it just over 1/8 thick and sanded down to 3/32 for the door. I used a woodslicer blade which worked much better than blades I have used in the past. From what I have read, 3/32 seems to be the thickest you can safely get by with to assure you don't get cracks. I wanted to leave as much material as possible. The sides I cut a little thinner and sanded down to 1/16.

@@thelwood Do you think a drum sander is vital for veneering? I would love to get a band saw for this reason but my next big purchase is a decent table saw.

@@jac_builtWoodworks if you have a planer, you can use a planer sled (just mdf, melamine or plywood) with either sand paper, double stick tape or CA glue to stick the veneer down and run the veneer through. Works great! Drum sander is a luxury, not a necessity at all!

Hi Lucy, my wife and I have had our Tonal for about a month now and we love it. Except, we need a cabinet like this to store our accessories. Any chance you would make and sell? Pre-cut pieces would work too. Let's chat!
