John John I have the dark star coming in a few days I’ll let ya know what I think between the slo and the dark star - I don’t have the hall of fame though --

John John so I just played through the dark star - and sadly I don’t really like it - gonna return it - it’s just not really usable for what I’m playing - the sounds are a little too out there for me - I would have no use for the crush setting and the pitch setting was underwhelming - the delay was okay - but the slo does that well too - I like the SLO’s reverbs for more real life applications and especially like the way the SLO holds/freezes what you play and then naturally decays once you hit it again - hope that helps - (I did get the black fountain Delay from old blood and it blew my mind - it’s amazing

Let’s be honest. The best part is the color. It’s so good. Also that Tele sounds so good.

The colour of that Tele is really beautiful. Also great demo.

Next reverb for sure!

Great demo. Going to hope for version 2. I like it but the goofy way of switching between wave shapes is a huge turn off. Add a second switch and I'll throw my money at it.

Your videos have great colors & tones! How do you go about color grading?
@LivingroomGearDemos5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! A lot is done in the room with lights. But color grading is a mix of som input luts, filmconvert and manual grading :)

How do you quit the sine, warp and sink fonctions? To just go back with dark, rise or dream? Thanks :)

You just toggle the switch WITHOUT holding down the bypass

Hold the sustain down and it goes on like a loop

I can’t help but hear a slightly cheap sound in there. I think it’s a lack of processing power? I tried a ventris, it’s got two 52 bit processors, and you don’t get that cheap sound... you get much more detail in the sound. Cool pedal but it’s lacking a “pro-audio” sound in my opinion.

Does the guitar signal go completely dry whilst you're playing with dream selection switch selected? Thanks
@FancyMayo4 жыл бұрын
Yes
@MarshRHCP4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but if you use other effects pedals on that dry signal it works really well to play over the top of the latched sound, especially with abit of overdrive, second reverb and delay!

How’s this compared to the Afterneath?
@drewg30873 жыл бұрын
Sounds better to my ears. But ears are different.
@hibernative5 жыл бұрын
This is kind of overshadowed by the Earthquaker Afterneath.
@mayito33345 жыл бұрын
Ehhh it’s nothing new. You might as well get a used descent for less $200. Or go ahead and get the Atmosphere to really make use of the LFO and wayyy more.
@yomuthabyotch5 жыл бұрын
oddly similar to the OBNE dark star...
@mattysanford5 жыл бұрын
yomuthabyotch plus the dark star has such better algorithms, IMO
@Escapism71335 жыл бұрын
This was my first thought as well - very similar. Unfortunately I've recently lost a little faith in OBNE as my Dark Star has decided to go on the fritz after less than a year of use. It pops/clicks when engaging the bypass on/off and has some excess electronic noise, which gets worse when changing between the 3 algorithms. I've only used it with a TrueTone CS6 and a Friedman PowerGrid 10 (as well as trying a typical wall wort PS - as the Dark Star doesn't have a battery option to test for grounding issues), never daisy-chaining it. These digital pedals can be difficult to diagnose compare to a simple overdrive or fuzz circuit so I'm kind of at a loss. I assume it is some excess voltage being stored or something. Regardless, it's lived a short and easy life so there's no reason it should be having issues. It has definitely put a damper on my affection for OBNE.

@@mattysanford how so? I'm looking into this and the matthews effects astronomer. Also, edit due to the feeling to inform you that I dont know shit about algorithms for pedals
@mattysanford5 жыл бұрын
Steven Clairmont it’s maybe just a personal preference. I think the slo and astronomer both sound perfectly fine, if perhaps a little “easy” or predictable for being pitched as stranger reverbs. There’s nothing wrong with that. I like the dark star more simply because the sounds are a little darker, more aggressive, more challenging.
