Man, I got this pedal largely based on this demo, and while it "drips", this is not a good spring reverb. It's really thin sounding and while you can adjust it to get longer decay and a wetter mix, you can't actually get more reverb out of it. Longer decay and a wetter mix is not what the reverb knob on an amp or tank does. I might be as stoked as Ryan if I'd also gotten it for free, but for $350? Nope.

Im sorry it didn’t fit what you were looking, but thank you for checking in to help inform anyone that might be shopping for a reverb. I’ll pin this comment to the top. I try my best to demonstrate what I think is important in everything I film, obviously spring reverb drip is important to me and the fact that a version of that sound was included in what is otherwise an ambient style reverb impressed me. When/if you find a reverb that fits your needs better please check back in and let us know what you found. -Ryan

I agree. I got one of these, too, and mostly intended it for ambient stuff, but the drip is what clinched it for me. That really set it apart from the sea of ambient verbs. A couple of months in and I can't squeeze a good traditional sound out of it to save my life. Coming back to this video to try and see Ryan's settings because the drip he's getting out of it sounds quite good! Even in spring mode I find it almost impossible to get away from the trails sounding very digital and overly long. Plate - IDK what's going on but it's almost unusable with a very unpredictable trail that spikes out of nowhere. Not ready to ditch the thing, but really wondering if I should have just went Mercury7 for full ambient and then added a Surfy Bear. Also, I've always been open to this being operator error, but I can't find a forum where anyone shares their settings so I'm just experimenting.

Damn dude me too. So glad I didn’t get rid of my topanga I immediately switched back after playing this one for about 15 mins. I’m planning on watching some more demos but spring is my fave for sure. Topanga beats any verb pedal I’ve ever tried as far as natural sounding, spring verb. This demo helped me a ton. The swell button is what was cramping my style This demo helped a ton. If u want a more traditional verb sound turn all the modulation off tweak knob all the way to the left for rate, depth and pre delay. Turn the swell all the to the left and turn the tune knob all the way left for the x switch. This worked wonders for me. Got mine used with no manual. This demo was great. This pedal is fabulous IMO.

I was in between the R1 and UA reverberator but the truth is that they both sound just as good but the options and functionality of the R1 is vastly superior. Just the fact that you can only save one single total preset on the reverberator is an insult. Seriously, for what UA is charging, it should have at the very least the ability to do 3 saves per reverb. Also, it doesn’t come with midi. UA dropped the ball cause I really wanted to like their pedals and yes they do sound great but they’re missing key modern components that just make going with their Walrus counterparts a no-brainer. Great video man!

"Damn."- Sophie B Hawkins or WWE Ron Simmons. Seems you could dial it in pretty fast into great tones. Never heard anyone express the washing out issue with certain pedals and reverb. Usually people are concerned about drives playing nicely. They blended very nicely though which makes it even more interesting. Twin peak-ing on the baritone made me wish to score an imaginary spaghetti western or *r1 clicks fuzz on* A doomsday sci fi flick. B from Detroit...where every day is a doomsday flick.

I just bought one and patched it into my boards and my initial reaction was kind of shock because I thought this would achieve a plethora of traditional reverbs AND ambient. I was lead to believe this from a post I made on a large pedal group on Facebook. This pedal would seem OK to compose underscore material but would be horribly unusable as a live-looper like myself. Or rather it could be used for a heavy effect but it is expensive and would take up valuable space on my boards. I need the best traditional reverb in a regular form factor like this. Money is not an obstacle. Any suggestions? Love your videos!

How can a reverb have both a "decay" and "room size" control? Isn't that basically the same thing?
@nathaniellarson83 жыл бұрын
Bigger rooms will be more "boomy" and yes, have a longer decay time.
@Andy_Yates3 жыл бұрын
I always think of it like this. Decay is how long the sound lingers. Room size determines how long it takes for the sound to reflect, and probably influences how washy/ambient the sound gets

Ryan, for under $400 would you say Surfybear Metal is king of the spring reverb pedals? You sold me on it on one of your videos, I love your surf playing, man! Second question: can I hear your music anywhere or do you just sit around all day crafting tones and noodling around in ethereal audio bliss like I do?

The surfy bear is the closest reverb to a real fender unit, i know people who preffer their sound to their fender units. They aren't always convenient size wise vs modern pedals. but the sound is excellent. I used to have a band, check it out here: dinosaurghost.bandcamp.com/album/dinosaur-ghost
