I enjoyed watching you play Halo CE while you talked about your history with the game, interesting perspective! Keep it coming! Id love to hear more about the discoveries made in the game, especially as Halo 2 came out and had countless "secrets" such as obvious button glitches, super jumps, etc. I think you or puckett made a great point about how the gaming community changed. Because at the time people were still figuring out countless aspects to the game, as opposed to the gaming community now who can just look on KZbin and find all the secrets.

Awesome, I miss those days. I remember when ur second halo 2 montage hit the scene, so good. I miss the quad shots, bxr's, and bxbs. By far my favorite halo game across the board. Truly an inspiration my dude. Drag shotting the sniper in two was beautiful too, all the games glitches or defects was what made the game much more intense taking a lot of skill to incorporate and pull off in game.

I really enjoy these videos and it really brings me back to the days of playing Halo 1 & 2 for hours on end every single night after high school. The old school halo community was unrivaled and that community doesn't exist in the same way in today's gaming world. MLG, HIH and HBO were literally my life for years. Thanks for these videos.

Love the comment about realizing there are people better than you outside your circle. I never knew about xbox connect until it was too late so I only played at my house. But playing H2 when XBL came out made me realize how awful I really was. Keep up the nostalgic videos Walsh. Would love to hear a coming up story about Kiaeneto too (even if I am still salty with how they went under).

I do remember you showed up one time playing at a friend of the time Col Tofu at MLG Chicago. I missed out on the LAN session that night -- sleep after tons of Halo -- but I hear it was really good. Getting good at Halo was hard work back then. Even the thought of having unlimited games online, voice chat, and with no lag, man you just didn't have it back then. We beat most of the people we played in Wisconsin but unfortunately you had to travel alot to play anyone decent, and I was in college at the time. Like you I had a group of friends that were "good" in that they were fun to kill but weren't really a challenge. We would get some better challenges traveling to Illinois, but it was still not what I would call upper level like you or STK -- I wonder if they still go by that lol, I remember they had a pretty sweet geocities looking site. What actually got me to a decent level where I could beat most people with a pistol was playing against Strange Purple and watching him play at a tournament in Illinois. Back then you didn't have videos online to watch the players, so I came up with the idea that I should study what these guys were doing. I got really good with the pistol just from watching how he used it. I think he was on the ogres team at the time in Chicago too. Whats funny is my best memory of that tournament is assassinating you on the second round FFA on Battle Creek on top of one of the bases. I think that was the only time I had seen you because you were holding high point - of course - and I was stuck down. I got knocked out that round but it was fun. We played our 4v4 with some random guys we chatted up online, literally no practice just dropped in and played to play it. It was better than bringing two of our college buddies. 2v2 was really why we went anyways and that's what I had the most fun in. I would have liked to get better and really compete but when I look back now, I was putting in some serious work on that game. We couldn't get local competition so we would just play on other players XBC connections and make the best of it. 12 hour days of Halo and XBC all summer. It's funny I think we played at least one of the ogres, maybe two - in a few 2v2s on there at one point. They took hangem and we took chillout, but it was on our host so it felt worthless. They actually gave us info on the ohio guys we met up with to play in MLG Chicago. It definitely was some of my best memories. I will say shooting a pistol is like riding a bicycle, it comes back right away in MCC even though those skills lay dormant in me for almost a decade. Anyways this post got long fast. Thanks for making the cool videos, I would've killed for these back in the CE days.

Great vids Dave! You and I are about the same age (I may be a bit older, actually, I turned 35 this February) and I clearly remember my CE days as well. I was 17 and skipped school to go over to a friend's house where a bunch of my core group of friends would always hang out, and my friend Jesse had bought an XBOX, which I'd heard of but couldn't afford myself. He was playing the Halo campaign, and I immediately wanted an XBOX once I saw (and heard) the grunts lol. Within a month, myself and a few other friends all were all regularly going to my friend Mike's house, playing 4x4's on two old tube TVs setup in his garage with 3 couches and 2 mini-fidges for HOURS on end. Disputes were settled in 1v1s, there were always at least a dozen or more other people (in addition to the 8 playing) at Mike's house just hanging out and occasionally one or more would want to jump in for a game or two... it was THE best time playing video games I have ever had, and I have been avidly playing video games since the late 80's back on the Atari & NES! I even went to a few local Florida LAN events for Halo. Didn't stick with it and go on to MLG stardom or anything, but I definitely was a contender back then in my prime. I am absolute trash now, of course lol. Hearing you talk about your history/stories reminded me of mine and I just wanted to share with you and hopefully bring a smile to your face in return for the one you put on mine! Cheers buddy!

Great show. Your stories are so similar to my memories with Halo CE. I grew up in a small town called Garrettsville in Ohio. We had a game shop called Area X that would host tournaments. I used to beat the crap out of the local kids and I thought I was the shit, until the Ogres came through and whooped our asses. Them and a team called Death2All (D2A) from Sandusky. Those Were the days. Keep the memories coming. Love the show.

2005-2010 was like the peak of competitive FPS. Walshy & Puckett were 2 of the most definitive people of that era. You should always be proud of that. I think it was the exact time that gaming hit the main stream. When guys like me stopped viewing it as a thing for "nerds" & something for everyone. We were seriously coming home from football games on Friday nights & playing Halo 3 all night after a long ass game. It was a really cool time. The thing that got me into was a LAN setup at our local small town movie theater after hours. At the time, it was Halo 2. The first few meetups was multi-team tower of power. After that, it switched to competitive. I only had an Xbox for NBA Live & Madden, but I instantly started playing Halo 2 online. By about the 3rd month, it had switched over to Halo 3 & I went from being one of the random scrubs to being a team captain (best 4 players had to be team captains to keep things competitive).

TLDR: I thought I had a chance of getting good one day in Halo 1 but gave it up for a regular life. I knew the Ogre's and I knew of Puckett back in Pickerington. I was probably close to their level on Halo 1 back in the day since I played the Campaign tons on Legendary during the summer and played tons of LAN parties with friends every weekend. I was one of the best of our groups of friends and we challenged the Ryan bros one time early into Halo 1. Sadly my friends chickened out. I won a FFA tourney round and got invited back at the Ohio state fair put on that same summer we played a lot of LAN, but sadly again I didn't continue playing. I think if I'd known there was a legit career possibility in gaming back when Halo 1 was getting this big I'd have stuck with it. I listened to my parents tell me it was a waste of time and went to college and hated it.

Ahh memories and nostalgia. The MCC is seriously the greatest thing 343 and Microsoft could have ever given us. It's such a blast. I hope Halo 5 turns out to be as good as it's shaping up to be because it looks to be reverting a lot of the crap that made Halo 4 casual. They actually listened to us. Lets hope Halo 5 can turn things around and make Halo a champion competitive game once more!

Hey Dave, loved the video, very nostalgic! I haven't checked out all these videos of yours yet but I def will. With that said I think a video of "where are they now" for old halo pros would be great. Like WTF happened to Zyos right? And that time Ogre 1 left to Australia or something? Also a video on getting older as a pro gamer and the challenges that come with it, I don't think anyone would be more qualified to speak on that than you. You were one of the oldest pros left at one point.

I like these videos Dave! You should do some new ones, but have non-pro players (aka regular Halo fans / players) on to talk about *their* history as well! They may not have the MLG main-stage experience that pros do, but that's the interesting part! They have experiences that you & other pros may not have had and don't know. More importantly, you would probably have someone on who likely had experiences that other people have also had and can appreciate / relate to :) Just food for thought! And of course, I would love to volunteer for one of these episodes! I love talking about Halo & my experience with it growing up. I'm about the same age as you (32) so we probably had a lot of similar experiences at least in the very, very beginning (before you got all famous and whatnot with MLG haha).
