The reason why those 2 random spawns happened early in the video is because Walshy did not move between the death of his teammate and the spawn. Even one step triggers the forced spawn.

I always knew where to spawn to give me teammate a random spawn, but never knew the reason why it worked. Well that explains it.

first one back is random, then the others are influenced by him. If they all died at the exact same moment, from the same rocket or something like that, all will be random.

Can you block spawns by throwing a nade at a spawn point?

No, grenades (or looking at a spawn) have no effect on spawns in Halo 1. Its only the player model and vehicles that can block spawns. Someone once blocked all the spawns on blood gulch with vehicles/players and the game could not determine a next spawn point for the respawning teammate.
