2:49 - classic joke, thats why rush had to re-engineer vapor trails after lifeson listened to it in his car with a bose system and gave it the thumbs up... you can see becker has a high end stereo in his lexus, guaranteed to run the sound thru processing algorithms. never trust a car stereo.

By the time I finished playing Steely Dan's 2nd album "Countdown To Ecstasy" from beginning to end 3 times straight in the summer of 1973, I was convinced that Becker & Fagen were the best songwriting duo since Lennon & McCartney. I had never heard rock and roll played with that kind of musical precision before. Got to see them in concert in April 1974, and they were clearly one of the best live bands on the planet that year.

I consider them even BETTER than Lennon & McCartney! The difference is that Becker and Fagen didn't wrote love songs, which is what mainstream media and public cares about.

@@IronMan-tk8uc Guess why? It's the one subject that most people relate to unlike that of a song, for example, lamenting about times passed in the jazz era. Duh!

@@candelise Yeah, I know. And that's what makes Becker and Fagen so different: they went against the grain and made their own unique style, which is still unrivaled well into the 21st century!

@@IronMan-tk8uc True. Most artists who are fine songwriters and don't write too many love songs don't get too many of their songs covered.

6:06 - Walter's reluctance to commit to studio work was (according to Fagen) the main reason why there weren't any Steely Dan albums after 2003. I guess he grew weary of the experience and didn't need the stress. Can't blame him.

I really didn’t expect any more Steel Dan albums after “Everything Must Go.” Everything about the album-from the cover photograph to the title song-gave a pretty unambiguous message of “That’s all, folks!” And if they had done another, we might not have had Walter’s second solo album, “Circus Money,” and frankly, we needed another WB solo album more than we needed another SD album. (OK, I’ll just speak for myself: I needed another WB solo album.)

@@paulbangash4317 Yes, I’m so grateful that Larry Klein helped Walter to do that record. Klein is clearly a great facilitator. Not as well-known as Rick Rubin, but he has a similar ability to inspire/push artists to do great work.

Hahaha it cracks me up that as he phones Donald, a large Coca-Cola truck appears on the background and appears on camera as it takes a turn towards where they are. It kinda adds to the absurd little things that happen everyday in life, which I know they both loved pointing out 😂 RIP Walter, we love you so much ❤

I have to be totally honest here. There is no bigger Steely Dan fan than myself. I have followed their music since the start in the early 70s. My only regret is that I never had the opportunity to see them during their heyday and while Walter Becker was still with us. But I have to say that I have never cared much for either of Walter’s solo efforts. There was just something missing there that didn’t appeal to me. But his collaborations with Donald Fagen are a totally different ball of wax. Some of the best music ever created. I will continue to enjoy it the rest of my days. RIP Walter. 👍
