This video lecture considers Benjamin's essay "The Work of Art in the Mechanical Reproduction" and Adorno's critique of the "culture industry" as dueling perspectives on mass media and popular culture. The ideas of these thinkers associated with the "Frankfurt School" are then applied to an analysis of popular music, technology, and the music industry.
