To me the greatest character actor. Every movie he played in was turned up a notch or two bt his presence. His role as Stumpy in Rio Bravo is unforgettable.

We're lucky to have had this great talent in so many Westerns. Some of the fine non-Westerns he also improved: 1. Meet John Doe 2. Sergeant York 3. The Pride of the Yankees 4. To Have and Have Not 5. The Princess and the Pirate 6. The Real McCoys (TV I know, but I grew up with this family).
