Professor Walter E. Williams is the master at pointing out that which is too painfully obvious for the common sheep to ever even conceive of.

@oJKBo Since no system is going to completely stop bad people from doing bad things, the real question is what system is better able to deal with it? A government which is a slow, expensive monopoly fueled by violence or a stateless system where people are free to experiment with lots of different solutions?

OMG!! his opening example...I was just thinking this same exact scenario yesterday.. weird... Great vid thanks

@oJKBo No one ever said that bad things will never happen in a free market but the state doesn't help that, if anything it encourages it. Anyone who says the state resolves disputes has never tried to take someone to court before. If your employer harms you, retribution is simply out of reach unless you are insanely rich and even more insanely patient. Even those who do often have to wait a decade to get their compensation and up to 70% is leeched by the process. It's a disgrace.

In school i learned about the Triangle shirtwaist factory, standard oil, and pretty much everything in the progressive era. My question is, would things like this happen in a free market--anarchist or libertarian, in which it would still be very free? Should they have been allowed to lock employees in their workroom?

@lordthawkeye i'm not saying bad things dont happen in a free market, but im coming to a point where im questioning my austrian stances towards chicagoan slightly.

@oJKBo: I don't think anyone is saying we shouldn't have fire exits. What we are saying is that we shouldn't have welfare. There's a huge difference between the two. @robertmike57: When you granting authority to steal to the government, you give business an opportunity to steal using the government as a means to do so. The recent bank bailouts are a perfect example of this. The best way to protect individuals from big business is to force big businesses to compete.

@oJKBo Well, in a free market, there are no barriers to entry into a field which would help those employees in two ways. First, these corporations wouldn't have the government shielding them from the consequences of their immorality and they would have vastly more competition. More competition means the employer has to sweeten the deal for their employees if they want the best workers. If they don't, they don't make their quota and they go out of business.

@Brantoc some libertarians belive in anarchy, but not all. some of us simply believe that government, right now, is simply too large, and that it should be doing less, that's all.
@Brantoc14 жыл бұрын
@EGarrett01 Actually, the government should be OUT of the auto industry, banking industry, health industry, insurance industry, etc. Government should have no say in religion, etc. Unless you hurt others, you should be free. As far as pregnancy, there is another entity involved, and the question is, does it have the same rights as it would if it's head was a few inches lower (during birth)

Let's not get hung up on the definition of a "tea-partier." In my view, it refers to a variety of people who want federal authority trimmed back to its Constitutional limitations. Libertarians and conservatives must come together to fend off a common enemy in the short term, socialism. Otherwise, our distinctions may fast become a moot point. Liberty must be gained as it was lost, incrementally.

@ThePsychedelicMoose Although neither needing nor indulging in any mind-altering substances and taking you at your word that any of those attributes are Doctor Keyes', I absolutely respect your absolute right to whatever are your opinions and have no argument with any of your contentions. And as absolutely stand by my assertion that Doctor Keyes is 1000 times the man 0'Zero is and 10000 times the patriotic American and would be a great president. (And you may relax, presidents do not legislate.)

Quibble: Rape and theft are generally not zero sum games. They are most often negative sum games. This game theoretic framing does not seem to work. What if the rapist gets more positive utility than the victim's negative utility? Just because it is a positive sum game does not make it a valid interaction. Consent or non-aggression must be appealed to, I think.

@pdxpumped The Tea Party is a shift in the right direction? So you think the government should dictate who you can marry, what religion you have, whether or not a woman carries out a pregnancy, and what substances you put in your own body?

@nick10463 Insurance companies running the police to protect their interests? Military paid for by insurance companies.. not fewer, but NO LAWS restricting trade in anything, NO LAWS restricting the medical field, these are not ideas of 'constitutional conservatives" like me, but Libertarians. Don't tell me what I am for. I want whole departments of government closed, and the welfare state dismantled, but not anarchy in the process.

people would make the laws just like they would make the laws in an anarchist society... however, lets get the government down to the constitution and get a libertarian elected and then we might be able to start talking about anarchy.. until then constitution!! lets gooo

@ThePsychedelicMoose Alan Keyes is 1000 times the man 0'Zero is and 10000 times the patriotic American and would be an American President and Armed-Forces Commander-In-Chief of Reaganesque stature. Although, having learned from Mr Reagan's few mistakes, be an even better one!

@Brantoc You say that as though it were a bad thing. And for your information, Somalia was run by warmongering dictators who taxed the shit out of people for decades. However, ever since their government was taken out, their quality of life has actually IMPROVED on near all fronts. You're trying to claim that just because they didn't turn into paradise overnight, that's proof against anarchy. In other words, take some logic classes before opening your mouth next time.
