I’d say it was deeply rooted in him to become that way, and using his family as an excuse to do it was how he went about convincing himself he was justified in doing so. Nothing can forgive or excuse the things his ego brought him to do in the grand scheme of things

For 50 fcuking years he was treated in a same way despite being one of the smartest people out there. He deserved respect but always faced humiliation. Its really fascinating to see what a man that has nothing to lose would do to provide for his family, and build a legacy for himself. Its crazy to think that someone so obscure in your life, like a teacher, or maybe someone you see everyday could have so much hidden from the public.

You never know what's happening behind closed doors, heck, you might not even know some of the grim secrets of family members. Hank certainly had lots of hints and evidence pointing towards Walt but he couldn't see it, his mind refused to see it. The ones closest to us, the ones we trust the most can betray us in the worst way possible.

He never wanted the money for himself, of course he also wanted to get the money he lost from leaving Grey Matter Technologies but in the first place it was always for his family. Or why do you think he wanted the family to stay together? Thats why its so tragic, the reason for which he started cooking meth was gone, the family was destroyed
