The I Spy series was a huge part of my childhood. Whether I was reading the books or playing the video games, Walter Wick's photography never ceased to amaze me. But when I was replaying the games as an adult, I realized that the games had a lot more depth that I initially thought they did...

Such a good vid! In addition, in Mystery, you can see a pic of Skeleton with a cat, and that cat is also seen in a painted photo of a woman in the back of the image, suggesting Skeleton could be the woman in the painting when Skeleton was...not a skeleton lol. The ISU is definitely an interesting topic, and it's one of my favorite parts about Mystery. Four Letters connecting Treasure Hunt to Fantasy really excites me, and while Fantasy can also be seen as three different fantasies dreamed up by a child, I also like the option of the Fantasy ocean we explore is actually the ocean surrounding Smuggler's Cove.

The I Spy books were childhood and were like a fever dream giving it merchandise, board games, a tv show from 2002-03 on HBO, video games and fast food promotions. One day the I Spy books will deserve a movie adaptation.

One of my favorite book series as a kid. I still get amazed looking at the photos. I’ve alway been really interested in miniature scenes because of these books. They really had some amazing talent creating these.

Absolutely awesome video. I really wish there was more content online that covered the books and games, and this didn't disappoint. I grew up with I Spy Treasure Hunt on my Leapster when I was younger and have fond memories of reading the books as well. They were such compelling works and I blame them for my interest in pirates and puzzles. I decided a couple months ago to dive back into the series for a real nostalgia bath and I can say that these are still some of my favorite things and its just really cool to find a video where someone feels the same passion as I. There are some other I Spy games, like Spooky Mansion and Ultimate for the Wii (which I had), Castle for the DS, and Pirate Ship on PC that do have potential to fit within this universe albeit very loosely or just by being a similar theme. The Wii games are connected (the robot from Ultimate appears in Spooky Mansion's attic) and the Pirate Ship could very well be related to Treasure Hunt.

Okay, so for some further support of this theory: When I was a kid, I didn't have the computer version of these games (I'm very lucky that people have put them on KZbin and the internet), I had the LeapFrog edition of I Spy: Treasure Hunt! Now, that game was very similar to the computer but, given that it was a smaller console, it was downsized a fair bit-the hub was a lot smaller, and there were a number of places with minigames instead of images. Now, one big difference was that there were five main areas-the lighthouse (which had the upper floor of the lighthouse and the shipwreck cove, but not the painting), the ice cream shop (which had the ice cream shop and a food-serving minigame), the fort (which had Pete's dungeon, the picnic, and the well), Newman's Shop (which had the tackle box and a boat-building minigame), and then... the diving station. That's right, rather than the train station or anything like that, the fifth area was actually underwater, and the two images (plus a sorting minigame) were the closeups of fish and the shipwreck from Fantasy on the computer. I always assumed those two pictures came from the computer edition of Treasure Hunt, only to be surprised by their absence when I found footage of the game. Now, this could just be the developers having to cut ends or whatever, but if we consider the LeapFrog port canon (it followed the same pirates, though if I recall correctly, Pete's treasure was under the eye in his dungeon, Mary's was hidden in a rock by the fortress, and Newman's was behind the wheel in his shop), that means the mermaid and her treasure are quite close to the shores of Smuggler's Cove, thus implying a direct connection between the two. Not sure about Spooky Mansion, though.

Regarding Treasure Hunt: for every new save file, you always start with Pete then either Pierce or Newman, then the 3rd pirate not taken before looping back.
