I have the M1 with the paddle release shortly after the gun was released around 2011-ish, and I'm really glad that I got it when I did. Personally, I think that the paddle is a great release system, and I encourage you to try and get your hands on the M1 so you can compare the two sometime. I also totally agree with you on the holster issue. I don't understand the lack of good holster options both for range and CCW use.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
I had no problems finding many holster options. I bought an AIWB kydex holster from Blue Line LLC and got in less than 10 days. Most of the big boys take forever. Are you talking about leather holsters? Btw, I have the M1 also and it is far superior if you ask me. Fully ambidextrous, easy to operate without changing grip, and no accidental deployment of the mag. Also the M1 takes P99 magazines in all the sizes they come in: 20, 22, 30, 32 round capacities.

I have an M1 version, and I added trijicon hd night sights and a BT guide rod system. It is one if my EDC pistols and I love it. Reliable and very easy to maintain. I added the stainless steel bt guide rod for added weight and even smoother cycling.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
Thanks for mentioning the BT guide rod. I've been thinking about picking up one of those. It's between that and the DPM recoil reduction system. I really don't have an issue with the recoil, so maybe I'll just go with the BT.

I can't get a PPQ to go to slide lock either, it drives me nuts, but it is the best shooting striker fired gun I've ever used. The 5 inch version shoots exceptionally well. It seems everybody that shoots a PPQ shoots it better than their own gun.

I have the same problem with my VP9. I can't hold it in a natural way to get the slide to lock.

You might consider changing the backstrap sizes to see if it helps with the slide-lock issue. It might subtly alter your grip enough to keep it from happening.

Love that color 👍 The looks of the PPQ have really grown on me. I carry mine in a T Rex Arms Sidecar holster. I don't think it needs as much aftermarket support as some of the other mainstream striker fired guns but the only issue I've had is finding suppressor height sights.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
I think I recall someone saying that Dawson will hook you up with suppressor sights. They are a great outfit. I agree about the PPQ. I've taken mine apart down to the last pin and it is an elegant design. The PPS steel sights fit on the PPQ with minimal filing and improve the sight picture tremendously. I also added tritium vials.

I have a PPQ M2 in .45 acp and I have the same issue with the slide locking back. Not necessarily a huge issue in my opinion, but it does happen.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
Excellent camera work and shooting footage! I have to take exception to the idea of a lack of hosters being a 'ding' against the pistol, especially when it isn't true. There are dozens of places making holsters for the PPQ.

Does anyone have trouble getting the slide to go back into battery when doing press checks?
@82lowe36id7 жыл бұрын
Have a PPQ M1 and love the paddle release. It is the only handgun I have ever used that I dont have to shift my grip to drop a mag. I will be honest that I thought it was ugly at forst as well, but the looks has grown on me. The issue I had at first is after slide locked back I could not drop the slide with the over the top method because my trigger finger was holding the slide lock up. So, I use the slide lock/release with my other hand after inserting a new mag and work great.

Great video! Walther PPQ is my favorite. I held out for years before I tried one myself.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
PPQ has been a sleeper. Something about Americans, bad Walther marketing, and Glock, I suppose. PPQ is the best striker fired pistol out there, and possibly even the best 9mm period.
@goretro77hobbies7 жыл бұрын
During winter I CCW my PPQ M2 4" in a N82 Pro Holster and its very comfortable. I agree the 4" has a little more pop to it, but the 5" has a little less than the 4" and the Q5 Match has the softest felt recoil out of the PPQs.
@rudrashakti1083 жыл бұрын
I own a ppq45 m2. Never did have slide lock issues and I have you type of hands. I would prefer better stippling, more aggressive, but otherwise great ergonomics. The bore axis height or whatever it is does turn this gun into a bucking bronco in 45 acp. The muzzle flip I mean. I use a DPM recoil spring which helps. but still, it’s more flippy than other 45’s, not in a bad way, but it’s there. The new pdp only offered in 9mm currently makes me almost want to switch to 9mm just for that, it’s that good to hold in the hands.
@17890008 жыл бұрын
i prefer the m1 version over this- with the m2 if you have meat hands it'll drop the mag on you if you grip it to tight- i've seen 2 people so far at the range have the issue.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
M1 is far superior. That button on the M2 looks like a Fisher Price toy.
@Kim-ut2xr8 жыл бұрын
I have the M1 for my EDC, I have small (girlie) hands and can't reach the button release without breaking my grip on any of the full or compact strikers I've shot (Glock, M&P, Sig, etc.). An ambi button works okay, I just have to use my dominant hand like I do now with the paddle style. I have a female friend who bought one recently for her carry, she loves it too. If you know women looking for a carry pistol, I'd recommend trying the PPQ along with the usual suspects (Glock 19, etc.) It's worth trying out in the $500-$600 range pistols. This is the pistol I've carried since May 2015. I had the option to buy either an M2 (button mag. release) or M1 (paddle mag), not sure why you think that is a new feature. The M1 was actually harder to find than the M2 almost two years ago. I had to have my FFL order it from his distributor. Both were available when they were introduced to the US market but the paddle mag is more popular in Euro law enforcement markets. I had a custom kydex/leather holster made in about an hour by my local pro. After 22 months and about 8-10k rounds I still can't complain. I am itching to try the CZ P10 that everyone is comparing to the PPQ, but I really love my Walther. I will add, I plink reloads and the PPQ is a little fussy. Sometimes, cartridges that should fit are a hair to long. Gotta seat some bn and rn in the case a hair deeper.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
I reload also and I had the length issue with the Hornady PDX hollow point, but with some experimentation I got it figured out. Now it's a great shooting bullet and I've done enough testing (even with ballistic gel) that I'm using it as my self-defense load. Don't get your hopes up about the P10c. Apparently that was mostly gun-writer hype. I've since heard several people say the trigger isn't anywhere near as nice as the PPQ. PPQ trigger still reigns supreme. Also it looks kinda ugly, even next to the PPQ which is no beauty queen. The paddle mag is infinitely superior also.

Install the APEX Flat Face Trigger and you will have the best trigger that is possible in a striker fired pistol. Basically becomes almost a 1911 trigger, or it basically fires from the reset with just a small amount of pre travel. Less than 1/8 of an inch.

I bought into the ppq hype years ago and it really is a fantastic striker fired pistol. The trigger break and reset is the best on the market in my opinion if you're in to that kind of thing. However I still find myself carrying my glocks more than my walther. The ppq is way easier to get good groups out of though because the trigger is superior to glocks by a long shot. If walther would make a 5" ppq 45 I'd be all over that

Great review brother, thank you. Would you trust your life to this gun as a HD, GTW or SHTF pistol?
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
I've had the M1 for a year, and I've taken it apart down to every last pin, and it is one of the most elegant and robust designs I've seen. Not quite as simple as a Glock, but it did just as well as the Glock in torture tests, and Walther has certified the PPQ Navy as a combat ready handgun, and it is virtually identical to a regular PPQ save for a drain hole and striker weep holes. I carry my PPQ and I trust my life with it daily. Fantastic weapon.
@8triagrammer7 жыл бұрын
What are your thoughts on the Q5 in terms of being combat ready?
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90177 жыл бұрын
I don't imagine it is 'certified' as such the way the Navy is, but since they are built on the same platform, and use the same basic internals, I bet the Q5 is just as reliable. The longer slide might be a liability in SHTF situations, but the Q5 is clearly just as high quality as the other PPQs. I think the non-Umarex Walther pistols are just as high quality as H&K pistols, frankly at 2/3 to 1/2 the price. They also still feature the Tenifer nitriding treatment that Glock no longer uses. It's the best steel treatment available.

For holsters... yeah selection sucks. Had mine for 2 years and still not one I can say I truly like. However there is a desert eagle model and one of the previous walther models where the holster works as good as if they were intended for the PPQ. I don't remember the two specific models it's been a while but it's easy to find online cause holster selection has been a major issue since day one for these. I currently am just using a cheap multi adjustable fobus or cheap crap like that but it actually works better then any seen so far. Selection is 100x better then just a year or two ago though. I was Hoping when the VP9 came out the holster market would explode since they are sister guns but no such luck.
@Kim-ut2xr8 жыл бұрын
That sucks. I've been EDC'ing my PPQ since May 2015. I have a local pro who custom made my holster in about an hour. Kydex & leather IWB, similar to an Alien Gear, with accessories to wear OWB.

Blue Line Concealment LLC made me my AIWB kydex holster and it's awesome. I've heard that Cook's holsters are good too. I remember having trouble deciding which holster to get there were so many little boutique shops making good holsters. I'm surprised to hear you say that.
@fishrrelaxing93617 жыл бұрын
Myanameis Beestingz I don't like appendix carry most times. It doesn't fit my needs as I spend a lot of time in a vehicle driving and it's not a practice location to draw from when seated with a lap belt. My body type also doesn't lend to that small width type holster of a Blue Line design as it prints too much. I require a full width design similar to the side car designs when I do carry appendix. Living in florida during the summer with shorts on at the beach I also need the ability to push the holster down into deep concealment which that style of clip design doesn't allow me to modify for that.
@fishrrelaxing93617 жыл бұрын
Kim I'd be interested to know more about this. I want a similar design to the alien pancake with the ability to adjust for cant so I can wear it normal or move to appendix when needed. I also want to change out the straps making it ride lower and do deep concealment when at the beach with the wife and kids.. But Ive always been a huge fan of the alien holsters and also love leather backing for comfort. I actually need neoprene backing though cause it's hot in Florida and Sweat destroys the leather making it rough. Alien and tRex are my holster of choice for most of my pistols. Sounds like you got a hell of a good guy for holsters. Is yours setup for use with a light? I need someone who understands how to properly fit a holster for a large light like a tlr1 and understand the difficulties in clearancing for the switches to prevent ND of light when holstering or drawing. I know it would be easier to change to a surefire with better switch design but they are simply too long for comfortable carry when I do carry appendix.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90177 жыл бұрын
I should have added that I have a Crossbreed Ohai modular holster for when I'm driving. It mounts to a velcro patch under the dash in my car. I also have a modified belly band velcro belt for when I want to holster the PPQ in deep concealment while wearing shorts. I'm as skinny as a rail, so that probably gives me a slight advantage with concealment.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Hearing Protection Act... That IraqVeteran video with the suppressor was awesome. What suppressor do you have?

Ok?! Where do I start with you dude without getting too mean and hurt your feelings...Uhhmm.....Ok! To compare and say that THIS pistol which has been called one of the best looking, most reliable, best shooting, battle ready, most underrated, straight up bad a**, and greatest striker fired pistols ever made by some of the best gun guys and shooters on you tube to a Hi-Point is possible the most ridiculous comments I've ever heard from a you tube gun guy! Sorry bro but you had it coming. I had to call you out on that. And I'm sure that 90% of the people that read this will agree. That was absolutely insane! Peace.....

Btw you can go on Amazon and get an IMI holster for about $40. Not that hard...

I would care about your opinion and how upset you got over mine if it weren't for the fact that I don't in the slightest. Its ugly to me, everything else is just fine. That summarizes my review and it's not gonna change.

High point? High point? Really, even by accident? I don't know what to even say about that ? High point is a high point, ppq one of the top 5 hand guns in the world....

Uh... You're holding the gun wrong.. It's a handgun, not a rifle.. What's your right hand palm doing, rubbing against the slide??
@Regular_Guy_Training_LLC4 жыл бұрын
It's as high on the frame as possible. Look I don't have time to explain proper grip mechanics to you, ive done a video on this very recently. Unless you can shoot better than me (and I'd love to see video if you do) don't tell me about gripping a handgun wrong.

Doesn't look anything like a Highpoint, furthermore I would never let the looks of a gun influence my decision.

Walther lost my business by not making the M1 Mags work in the newer M2 gun. I loved my old PPQ but spending THAT much again on new mags? Screw that. Keeping my M1 but never buying another like I do with Glocks.
@xanderchristensen60688 жыл бұрын
God Emperor John It's because of the new mag release. I like the Euro style mag release on the M1 better anyway
@stopthephilosophicalzombie90178 жыл бұрын
Why bother with the button mag? The paddle is better anyway.

You have the oddest grip on the pistol i have ever seen...lol.....but it seems to work for you.
