I've had an EGO mower for two years and I've been watching videos on their snow blowers. This is the best one I've seen so far, especially for someone like me who's never had a snow blower. I think EGO should pay you to use this as a promotional video. You've covered all the bases and have done an awesome job. Thank you!

I just bought the Ego two stage. In time for the first snow here in se Nh. I think it worked very well, but the batteries didn't last the whole job. Not a huge problem. I also have the Ego lawnmower. I can get 1 extra battery and always have a set charged and ready. This was also a first use learning the best way to do the driveway will make it last longer. A couple clogs but the snow wasn't letting go of a shovel either. I have a medium size driveway with a pretty steep hill. It is going to be a learning curve. But a life saver for this storm. 4.5/5 stars (I don't give 5s).

I got mine for $450 in the summer time. Tool only. I already have a mower and leaf blower and I use a 7.5 and a 5 on this snowblower. I do 2 three garage driveways and both neighbors long sidewalks. Then I charge, I can’t imagine if I had two 7.5s. Best way to snowblower is to start in the middle and go in a circle so you rarely move the shoot. Great review my man

What about when the plow comes by and throws a bunch snow chunder at the bottom of the driveway, how does it handle the thicker heavy snow? I have basically the same driveway of you or your neighbor, full three car garage and I can fit 4 cars across all the way down (doesn't taper off like my neighbors) but it's a regular driveway length like yours. I just don't want to fight the bottom of the driveway if the plow fills 2' feet high and 4-5ft wide band of snow at the bottom. troy bilt does fine but it's slow going albeit it's pos so any 2-stage not troybilt would probably be an upgrade. I do like that potentially my wife and teenage kids probably could operate the EGO with minimal supervision vs gas.

So many ask the same question and I have not seen it answered once.
@spyghetti11 ай бұрын
@@petersonfamily6223 yeah I've noticed the same... after spending like 1.7k for all electric, do you need to spend another 800-1000 in batteries to get 5" cleared plus the heavier/deeper bottom.. just doesn't make sense if it clears a big space easily but can't handle the thick stuff over and over because I can shovel my driveway but the bottom can take forever.

The fact that it does not manage the speed downhill was something I hadn't heard before. Thank you for mentioning this! I have a steep driveway and I would not want to have to hold it back / prevent it from running away on me.
@r.martin3494 Жыл бұрын
I would have thought that the only time it freewheels is when not in drive mode? As long as it is in drive and set to its slowest setting; 0.45mps? Then that may curb the run away effect if the motor has some drive friction that restricts it speeding up, but I'm just surmising here. If that hills use is true, then it should come with a bike style, cable to hub, stepped hand brake stay. Someone should write to E-GO. You could always sit on it and slide down the slope and then drive it back up! 😅😂

I purchased the EGO lawn mower when it first came out and upgraded to the self propelled version two years ago. I have the blower too. I purchased the snowblower when they first came out also. Never knew about the two stage version. Your video is so compelling it makes me want to go out to buy it! I certainly have enough batteries to keep a set charged while I run the unit! Most comprehensive review! Even explaining all the control and breakdown for storage helps a consumer feel comfortable making the investment! I agree with most responders… EGO needs to hire you or at least compensate you for helping to sell their product!

Great Review. I bought this last month and used it once so far after the bad storm in December. It’s loud but not anywhere near as loud as a gas snow blower. My family couldn’t hear it in the house. There’s a higher pitch that’s a little annoying but overall very tolerable. I’m a woman and this was my first time using a snowblower and found this very easy to assemble and to use. I quickly learned to operate all the options after the first faceful of snow and ice from the wind. 😂.

Ah the wind-blown snow in the face! Man! That can really sting when cold enough, makes my forehead go numb and like a headache! That's why some gas blower's have an entire polythene canopy with roof and I thought how that just looks a bit "pants". That was until I was out there and the wind was gusting and the snow blowing at me constantly, then I was wishing for the canopy.

I live in Ct and I have an average driveway. My EGO two stage has been awesome. It runs for about 30 mins on two 7.5 amp batteries. I have other EGO products so I have 4 batteries. These products are geared toward smaller sized driveways. If you have a large driveway then you will need more battery range. I have to change out batteries near the end of clearing my driveway. My driveway is about 35 feet long and two cars wide. In Ct the snow is almost always wet and heavy so the higher auger speeds will be what you will have to use.
@dr.victorstrange6848 Жыл бұрын
This was a good review very detailed. I bought mine last year and unfortunately it snowed all of 2 inches all winter in the Northeast so I haven't had an opportunity to put it through its paces. I will agree it should be the last Ego tool you buy to the point about the batteries. Only paying $800 was much easier than if I had to start with buying an additional $600 worth of batteries that I'm only using for snow. I now have 3 batteries and they def come in handy more in the spring and summer months between all the other Ego tools I have acquired since getting the mower. Of the two hours I used the blower it was pretty impressive. the 50' throw range is no lie its super powerful. I did have a concern with run time and would caution only using slower speeds unless its needed to extend the runtime, otherwise the batteries will drain pretty fast. I felt like the first battery drained faster than the second as far as the lights indicated but that may have been due to not having the batteries 100 percent topped off.

Ordered the 28" with 2X12.5Ah batteries. I live in Ottawa Canada, and have a 180ftX35ft driveway. This year I already paid for a company to clear snow, but it's 500 CAD a year, and I still have to do our walkway, some paths for my dogs, and some of the patio. I got a shitty 18" Snowjoe electric snow blower for that ($350). But that one runs out of the 2 batteries after the front and back walkways alone (if there's more then 6" of snow, or the snow is wet). It also barely throws the snow. You'll get 10ft with dry fluffy snow, and 1.5ft with wet slushy snow. 5 years warranty means 2500 CAD saved in 5 years, and I paid 2700 for it (with the batteries). Tool alone is 1800 (with another 5 years warranty), so I have peace of mind here.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm looking to buy "babies first snowblower" :D this year and I'm already invested in the Ego ecosystem with the mower, trimmer, and of course, chainsaw! :) My biggest fear is running out of juice. It's easier to have a gas can but there are also so many cons to the gas systems. I think I'll give this blower a try. I just realized my two batteries are only 5Ah, so I guess I'm buying the kit with the 10Ah batteries, that's going to hurt my case to my wife.

Thanks for an excellent review. Your warning that the unit will free-wheel down a slope was invaluable and, for me, a deal breaker. The noise level was surprising and the machine looks rather frail overall. The shear pin problem was pretty much a non-event as I've had exactly the same experience with both my old 2-stage gassers. As much as I'd like to get away from having a gas-powered machine, this unit won't do the job for me. I'm rather glad that I don't even have to get to the point of deciding on the basis of cost.
@phillipp1399 Жыл бұрын
You may check into your local regulations but in most places it’s illegal to remove snow from your property onto the right of way… I know this is true in all of Colorado. Also for broken shear pin removal, the new pin can be used to push the old one out. Buy a few before you need them 😊
@r.martin3494 Жыл бұрын
Great advice! I have a bag of pins too and yes I have pebbles and yes I broke some pins and no they don't always shear through quick enough and I suspect I've stripped the tips of the auger gear as the engagement take-up sound changed.

Nice I didn't know that the wheels free spin. I really like that I'm to lazy or lack of time to throw a blower in reverse so I pull my snow blower back every time. The way my driveway is laid out I have to push the snow to only one side so I can't blow it to the left or right.

I had a Sears Crafstman 27 inch 5hp (Tecumseh) two stage snowblower for 30 years. I lived in Winnipeg, then Thunder Bay, Ontario (Northwest shore of Lake Superior). Needless to say, lots of snow and very cold. I used it to clear feet of snow in 0C to -40C weather too many times to count. I changed the oil less than ten times in that period, never changed the spark plug once, never drained the gas in the summer. It never failed to start once (it did have an electric starter I used when it was really cold.) I don't think a battery snowblower could handle those conditions. Especially the chunky four foot high windrow the plow leaves at the end of the driveway. Maybe I'm wrong about battery, but i never had any trouble with gas powered. Just fill it with winter blend gasoline (most gas stations switch to winter after October most places - don't use the leftover summer gas bought for your lawnmower).
@drwisdom12 ай бұрын
I don't get out our snowblower out until we get at least 6 inches of snow, less than that I shovel. When I blow snow it is usually over a foot and as high as the catcher. Our area is sloped and multiple times the size of the driveway in this video. I just don't see this snowblower being able to handle snow that deep or do a decent sized area without recharging. But not having to deal with gas and quiet would be nice.
@martinpugh9700 Жыл бұрын
So tempted! Nice S. Does the drive spin both wheels? My gas only does one wheel and that sucks.
@rayweaverling3141 Жыл бұрын
I have several older Craftsman and MTD snowblowers that are 2 stage. On mine, the right side axle where the pin goes through to hold the wheel on, there are 2 holes. Push the wheel back and use second hole to pin and both wheels engage but it is more difficult to maneuver but more power. Use outer hole and it is much easier to turn. The deeper heavier snow I move it to engage both wheels and go slower to let machine do all the work.
@martinpugh970028 күн бұрын
I pulled the trigger and got this with 2 10ah batteries. Pricey but I love it. My 1 stage Arien’s was great but I never did the sidewalks, just too hard. With the Ego I do them all the way to neighbors driveway with basically no effort. Love this thing. The beauty of electric is you drop the batteries in and start. No choke, no gas fill, no maintenance, no warmup. Just go!
@Ruralmn4 ай бұрын
Can confirm that blowing snow at midnight with an electric snowblower is perfectly viable. One neighbor was really confused when I moved my snow because mine was done before they woke up. Never stirred the wife, and local law enforcement drove by while I was doing it and simply didn't care. They're great if you have neighbors.

bought one of these near the end of the season. Had 2 storms, both with wet heavy snow. Broke a shear pin in both uses and did not hit anything while blowing. Similar experiences all round. I actually broke both shear pins on my first use and I had a horrible time getting the remaining pins out to replace them in the cold. Also likewise it took a few uses before I got a good pattern for blowing my snow so I wasn't redoing as much work and could handle the controls. It is very hard to not overthrow the snow given the torque behind the second stage. I too prefer the times when I don't have to use the propulsion. I almost wish I'd bought the cheaper new belt propelled EGO blower, but I've had 2 snowfalls deep enough to appreciate the big capacity. My only complaint is that the auger and propulsion levers move too freely. Unlike yourself I've got a belly in front of me and leaning forward to push it a little usually results in both being on full until I notice.
@waltsreviews902 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like the shear pins go pretty easy.

Maybe? I bought 3 more pair that day and haven't used one yet. I didn't have much experience with snowblowers and the ancient one I had some years back I would have never tried to use at the spot where I blew the pins. It was an area exactly 24" wide so I was actually short about 1 inch I guess and it caught on some plastic edging. I think it's just newbie issues.
