Wampler Velvet Fuzz Review

This is my demo for the Velvet Fuzz from Wampler Pedals!
I created a unique track for this which is a bit in the vein of one of my heroes Jeff Beck but also has some Gilmourish touch to it.

Sometimes, it's not about chasing a tone from one specific piece of equipment, it's about capturing the tones from the entire signal chain.
Looking back through history, there have been some truly outstanding fuzz tones. In particular, the tones achieved by running a fuzz into a screaming stack. The kind of tones that are just earth shattering in their depth, aggression and smoothness.
Brian Wampler, who's always looking for the best tones to capture, decided the chase was on. Taking the base tones from a very famous pedal and the characteristics of a famous stacked, EL34 driven, amp - decided it was about time those tones were brought together in pedal format.
If you are a fan of the tones of the players like David Gilmour or Eric Johnson, then it could be that the Velvet Fuzz is the pedal you are looking for.
The key to the tone of the Velvet is the voicing switch. In the "big" position, the pedal reacts like a classic fuzz. Loads of internal compression and truly massive tones it really is that "tone" from that "era". Dropping the volume back cleans it up perfectly so your rhythm can remain clear enough and then your solo's will flatten all those who dare to stand before you.
In the "tight" position, the tone comes in and you get the feeling you have swapped amps as well, those mammoth tones but without the compression and other traits that many fuzz players love... Yes, that's right. If you love the tone of Fuzz but not the reaction of it, this is the setting on the pedal that is for you.

Demoing is quite a hard job these days, having maestros all around. But regarding this Velvet Fuzz, this is hands down the best one on the Internet (of course it does not mean that other Harry's demos are bad, but you know... the competence is quite strong). It checks a lot of features in different scenarios always with an astounding tone and, most important, with expressivity resources and brief precise explanations. I have purchased this pedal in order to substitute my beloved EQD Hoof Reaper, and get some extra space in my board. I was crying regretting the decision until, while reviewing videos once more, I have found this one. Needless to say that I have stop moaning and I am excited waiting for the delivery guy! PS. The "guitarist-trying-to-remember-where-he-left-the-home-key" kind of facial expression is absolutely fantastic! :D

Did like the sound of this pedal before watching this review but it was this review that made my mind up. Its an awesome review superb playing and love how you've actually made a in depth tune and backing track for the purpose of showing what this thing can do. Also like to add that the same happened when I purchased the Wampler Tweed 57 it was Harry's song that finally nailed it for me and if you've not seen that vid I suggest you check it out. I've been meaning to write comment for along time but finally got round to it. Great sound quality too on the recording I've heard others where the sound quality is so bad that it puts me off the product being reviewed. Great work !!

Thanks Jason! I would place the DF behind the VF. I think that the right side of the DF would be great to boost the sound of the DF. If you add more gain on the DF you can balance the amount of drive coming from both. So you could also have a low setting on the VF and a higher gain setting on the DF. ;)

Woah! Those ring mod riffs were seriously intense! Ive had this pedal for awhile now but Im gonna have to get a ring mod now. That was fantastic. Cool, you'll enjoy that too. Try some different pickups from Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio or any brand you like. I have HSS and HH modified models. I've changed the trem too but the one that's installed stock on the 510v is pretty good too. The necks and overall body shape is identical to the 611 BTW. Have fun bro.

Yes it's an HSS but that is the best tone I've ever heard out of a 'stratocaster-esque' guitar.

I run mine after the Compressor, but I like it on the tight setting. If you are planning to use it on the big setting, might want to run it first.

shmacky did you try to use Transcribe? It's a lot of chromatics and the last part is minor 7th arpeggio's played in minor thirds from F# to A

Outstanding Just dialed in so hopefully you will show us how it cleans up like those old FFs do I've totally disliked the majority of the fuzz I've tried So looking into switcher to separate the fuzz w my other germanium pedals I'm thinking that was one of the problems to start with Looking to hear those fluttering chordal clean strat tones w fuzz on and guitar V down But you seem more of a modern player so will see Killer playing though 🙂
