This is what makes Wanda one of the most terrifying characters in the marvel universe as a whole. It’s not that she’s a bad person, she’s not, it’s that she’s got an insane level of power of the very fabric of reality and has suffered so much physical and emotional trauma that she’s no longer mentally stable. She can literally rewrite reality to suit her purposes and doesn’t have the wherewithal to know whether what she’s doing is right or wrong.

i think wanda is a good example of what happens when a generally “good” character doesn’t have the proper life lessons or support system to help them make the “right” choices in morally complicated situations. like not only was she raised in unsafe situations, but she has continuously so far depended on a singular person for all of her emotional support. without that person she feels completely alone. it’s not an ideal situation for someone to be in so i think it’s nice to show the nuances of that a bit, because there are a lot of people in the real world who behave “badly” for similar reasons and may benefit more from a supportive approach than from a combative one.
@reactswithjax10 ай бұрын
That's a really good point. She really didn't have any support system around her for so long. It wasn't until Clint had that epic conversation with her at the end of AoU that she got on board with the Avengers. We need Clint to come and help her again!
@JaggerG10 ай бұрын
@@reactswithjax I love Clint's miniseries, too, it's so cute!
@jen45322 күн бұрын
And I mean, she wasn't even making the "wrong choices" in the first place, she was actually unable to control it in the longer run. It all started by her trying to do things the right way. She went to SWORD to get Vision's body and bury him, like he wanted. Not even after the shock of seeing him all dismembered and being kinda pushed by Hayward she changed her mind and stole him or tried to get him back to life. She didn't put any fight, she just left, heartbroken. Then she went to the plot of land and only then she had a breakdown and exploded and her powers completely took over. She didn't need to be told what the right thing to do was. Thats why I believe it was an extreme situation where the alternative was basically death for her. And in order to prevent that, to keep her alive, her magic took over and "gave her" this reality. Her moral dilemma, and the moment she starts struggling to make the right choices is when when she starts waking up but she resists and doesnt want to see how it affects the people around her.

The inclusion of Quicksilver, not from the MCU but from the X-Men movies, was a brilliant stroke of metawriting that put the audience in the exact same position as Wanda, bargaining with herself, one of the stages of grief. Knowing that this isn't exactly her brother, not knowing why, but strongly motivated to believe it is (because the fandom was thinking they were getting the alternate universe story they had been eagerly awaiting, but not sure about). Hats off to the writing team and to whoever came up with this concept.

I remember years ago, in the comics, a number of big brains from the comics; Stark, Dr Strange, Proffessor X etc. getting together and having a very serious conversation about whether Wanda Maximoff is simply too powerful to live and if they should do something about it. Like, it's nothing personal but she is ridiculously dangerous and not exactly the most emotionally stable person in the world so there were quiet talks about whether they should find a way to put a bullet in the back of her head before something dramatic like this happens. Pretty cold blooded but, in their defence, when Wanda eventually does do something like this in the comics, it's on a MUCH larger scale than in Wandavision... like, global.

To me, it seems like the way the show presents it is as she initially did it unconsciously and then it kind of spiraled from there, at first she didn't know she was doing it, later she started to figure it out on some level but wanted to keep pretending things were okay, and we'll see what direction that goes from here. In the comics she's always been highly unstable and can be one of the most powerful forces for good or can really mess things up when she's not in control of herself (which is a massive understatement, as those who know the comic storylines are well aware).

We need to look at Wanda's personal time line. First we have Age of Ultron, when Pietro died. Then we had Civil War, which couldn't have been much later as she was still being trained. Not much time to process Pietro's death. Then she went on the lam with Vision in Infinity War, at the end of which Vision died. After that she was snapped out of existence. After that she reappears during Endgame. Note how confusing it was for Monica and no sense of time having passed. This series was stated as starting less than a week after the Blip returned everyone, so from Wanda's POV, she's lost her brother, then lost her lover, and now it's a week after that. She's a mess.

The actor playing the "recast" Pietro is the same one who played Pietro in the X-Men films. This got a lot of people SO hyped because it looked like the X-Men movies were finally crossing over with the MCU. Until 2019, the X-Men franchise was owned by Twentieth Century Fox, which prevented the X-Men from officially showing up in the MCU and meeting the Avengers. Wanda and Pietro's appearance in the MCU was a special case. In the comics, they're both mutants, which meant that they fell under the umbrella of X-Men characters owned by Fox. So in order for them to appear in the MCU, the origins of their powers had to change, and they could never be called by their mutant names Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Meanwhile, the X-Men series introduced their own version of Pietro/Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past. But Disney bought Marvel Studios in 2012 and then bought Fox in 2019, so they now own both and can do anything they want with the X-Men, including integrating them into the MCU.

At this stage I was trying to work out what it meant that Wanda didn't seem to be able to remember and couldn't control everything. I was trying to work out if someone was controling Wanda and just how much she was to blame.
@reactswithjax10 ай бұрын
The writers did a great job of not revealing too much. I had just started to give up on the theory that Wanda was being controlled.

Without spoiling much. This actor played Quicksilver/Pietro in the X-Men movies made by Fox. Quicksilver and Wanda are siblings of course, and this episode happened a few months after Disney bought Fox. People were freaking out because we thought we were getting the X-Men in the MCU and expected Hugh Jackman to show up next or something, lol.
@calibadgerdude608210 ай бұрын
One of the biggest theories at this point was that Professor X was going to have to come in and help Wanda fix her mental issues. Everyone also thought the “aerospace engineer” was going to be Reed Richards. XD. The fan theories during this show were so much fun, and so frustrating at the same time.

Wanda and Pietro's parentage is pretty mixed up in the comics. One version they are the children of Magneto (in Xmen Universe). Since XMen and MCU aren't mixed in movie-land (because of different production company rights), they can play both versions this way.
@carlgibson28510 ай бұрын
They solved Wanda and Pietro's's parentage in the comics by revealing that the twins weren't really mutants and weren't related to Magneto, they were actually ordinary human babies who were experimented on by the High Evolutionary and were raised by Magneto who believed they were his children. It caused a bit of a stink at the time and comic fans hated it, but Marvel felt the need to retcon their origin because they couldn't use mutants in the MCU, and even though they now have the X-Men rights back, Wanda and Pietro's origin is still that they were never Magneto's kids.

Wanda learned to speak without an accent, with training from Natasha Romanoff, however she slips back into it when she is emotionally stressed. It is common for people who have learned a new accent to or language to slip back into their original one in stressfully or otherwise intense situations.

For example, in the first couple of episodes, the film wasn’t black and white - Wanda changed everything and everyone to be black and white. It’s why Dottie’s blood showed up red in episode 2.

As a Person who collected comic's For years and watched all the Marvel Movies ( Good and Bad) I liked this Show because it was So different, Well written. ( The Show has a lot of Moving Parts . At it's Core it really Show's How Trauma and Mental Health can Make or Break a Person. as you Go along you will see what i mean) This Show is One were you will have More Questions and Theory's Every episode ( All the commercials Have to do with Wanda's Past Event's ) and you Wont get any real Answer's Until the Last Few episode's ( Even then i remember watching it 2 time's and still was catching New info.) When I First watched it. I had So many Theories each episode. I also agree the 4th episode Is better then the First Few! Yet, Without Episode 1 and 2 the rest would not be as good without all the Confusion In the beginning.

@Reacts_With_Jax, I mentioned in last week's comments that two actors have been cast as Quicksilver, one in the the Avengers series, and one in the X-Men series, and the latter one is the one we see here., which in a weird way is tying both those parts of the MCU together. The next episode is my fav of all of them.

If you have a chance, find a condensed video covering the House of M storyline. The MCU 19999 and Comics 616 aren't 1:1 but can lend some information as to how powerful Scarlet Witch really is.
@PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm7 ай бұрын
By now Jax you've seen Days Of Future Past and you know about why that version of Quicksilver showed up on WandaVision. Did anyone ever explain why? Long story short after the film rights to all the Marvel characters were. Licensed to different studios there were only two that were allowed to be used by both Disney and Fox; Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch. This was because of the strong connection they had with both the Avengers and the X-Men respectively. While Fox never had there own Wanda they did have the best version of Quicksilver!

Vision had no choice but to put that guy back into the fantasy that Wanda is living, it would not have gone well to have him freaking out and upsetting Wanda at that point in time...

This has to be considered a new Vision. Much of his intellect was comprised of the Mind Stone.
@k.delpino112410 ай бұрын
Wanda becoming the villain, i was sure that was it wasn't completely her fault. But she wasn't really hiding her feelings and trying to hold it together. Paul Bettany as Vision really shows more and more layers as much as in Infinity War. I imagined that he would not find out why things were so different till the end. Monica Rambeau slowly and surely becoming her comic counterpart was getting cool. S.W.O.R.D. (the team leader anyway) is just agents and soldiers compared to Wanda. No way they were a match, weather she was grieving or not. Going into the 1980s inside Westview did bring back memories. That was my era,The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Full House (Liz Olsen's twin sisters of course). Even Peters as the other Pietro Maximoff was a sucker punch. Marvel Studios & Fox had some crazy agreement back in the day pertaining to his screen availability.

I have seen all of Jax's reactions 😊so this is not about spoiling... But as we find out later it is "magic on autopilot" and thus Wanda is not specifically controlling the whole town - it's magic on auto-pilot. Also she was not aware of what she did and how she did it, that's the story right? There are 3 camps... team Wanda who is a mystery, team SWORD and we don't know their true goal at this point, and team Agnes but we also are not aware of her minions at this time.

My sympathies were still with Wanda at this point: I understood the magnitude of the harm she was doing, but I took this to be a mostly (not entirely) involuntary result of severe trauma, like someone lashing out as part of PTSD. I took the scene-with-an-accent to be evidence of a compartmentalized personality, where one part of her knows what’s going on & another doesn’t. Between Monica & Hayward, I always trusted Monica more. The use of Evan Peters as Pietro utterly confused me. As to your proposed compromise . . . stay tuned.
