I love how, in a move of absolute desperation and panic, Tony and Steve got placed the worst positions possible: Tony’s in space on a SEAL team mission with the Guardians while Cap is stuck on Earth trying to figure out the android science stuff with Vision. They both got saddled with what should’ve been the other one’s mission and are at a complete disadvantage.

Fun bit of trivia: In ye olde viking times, 'rabbit' was a general use term for any small game animal, much like we'd use 'varmint' today. So Thor calling Rocket 'Rabbit' is accurate, whether by happy accident or some top tier researching from the scriptwriters.

Oh, there's one thing that viewers often misinterpret in this movie. The directors confirmed in an interview that Hulk's refusal to appear wasn't because of fear after losing to Thanos. Hulk had no problem going back for round two. But he was fed up, tired of only being allowed to exist when Bruce needed saving, then forced to vanish afterwards. During his time on Sakaar, Hulk finally started to have a life of his own. He'd found a place where people cheered him instead of being feared and constantly hunted. So Hulk was basically refusing to be the bodyguard who gets to drive the car when Bruce summons him, then stuffed back into the trunk when the fight ended. Hulk was just done with that arrangement.

@@RLKmedic0315 nope, it makes perfect sense and fits Banner/Hulk's story arc in the MCU. The only problem is the change in persona took place offscreen between movies, we didn't get to see how the merged Hulk came about- that part is what was bullshit. "Against the lore" is meaningless in the MCU because it's a different universe with its own lore. In the MCU Hela is Thor's older sister, not Loki's daughter. In the MCU Banner and Stark collaborated to create Ultron after discovering an AI inside the mind stone- he's not a creation of Hank Pym. In the MCU, Iron Man's identity was never a secret. In the MCU, Cap, Hawkeye and Black Widow are original founders of the Avengers but Ant-Man and the Wasp aren't. In the MCU Asgardians and Frost Giants have lifespans of roughly 5000 years and Thor is only 1500 years old. All of that is against the lore, too. The MCU was never about accurately depicting the mainstream comics onscreen, it's free to change things up and often does. MCUcomics.

Jax, please don't feel badly about not remembering all the Infinity Stones. This movie was (I think) the first that we heard about the Soul Stone, after all. And you're able to hold so much of the MCU in your head as it is. No wonder all the commenters are impressed. And then there's your wonderful commentary, like: "Sparkles the Pirate Angel" "Aww, they're meeting each other... in a very violent and deadly way." 😁😆 To answer a few of your questions: Bucky's new arm looks different because it's made of vibranium. And no, Thanos isn't really against lying. But he refused to teach Gamora how to do it convincingly, and that was on purpose. It was so that she wouldn't be able to lie to him. Can't wait for part 2!

Trivia from the old guy: Stan's cameos in every MCU installment has its roots in the comics, but not NEARLY so frequently, so it was always a treat to see Stan and Jack make their appearances on occasion. They, like Wilson the Neighbor from "Home Improvement", never showed (drew) their own faces. We just knew who they were because of the dialog. Said all that to say this: Stan and Jack saved their appearances for REALLY important books, not the 12-centers, but the big 25-cent 100-page Annuals. Tough on a $1 weekly allowance, but always worth it. The most memorable (and this is the part that might interest you) and famous appearance of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby --- in top hats and tails, no less, was at the most famous wedding in Marvel history. The wedding of Sue Storm to Reed Richards. EVERYONE was in it, big NYC hero/villain brawl to make sure the wedding could happen. And when it did, Stan and Jack couldn't get in. They weren't invited. It was hilarious, and honestly, a little sad. The entire MCU has been a love letter to letting Stan and Jack sit in on this world they created. (Jack perhaps deserves more credit than he gets, as the LOOK of almost everything you see is based on the universes inside his head --- Asgard, all of it, Captain America designer back in WW2 before Stan came aboard --- all the Avengers' first outfits, --- the entire visual narrative of Marvel.) Stan the Man Lee wouldn't have gotten far without Jack the King Kirby.

Re-re-watching these MCU movies through your new eyes has been great. There are so many things coming together all at once that it can be a bit overwhelming, so that's why it's good to watch again back-to-back. It's brilliant that they use Peter Dinklage, a "little person", as a giant, and he does a great job. You know that when the Guardians show up it's going to be action with a lot of humor. It is hard to not give away any spoilers, but I will say, hold on to your bloomers for the next.

15:33 - According to the Russo Brothers, Hulk is tired of being used by Banner and the Avengers. To his mind, they only call him out when they need him for fighting. During his two-year period on Sakaar, the Hulk was able to develop his own personality, his own (limited) thinking and opinions. And in his opinion, he was just a tool to be used by Banner and the Avengers. And though the Russo Brothers never said it, the Hulk had never been defeated so soundly before Thanos. Yes, he technically lost to Tony (in his Hulkbuster armor) and to Thor (before the Grandmaster cheated), but he never just flat-out got his butt kicked. Thanos certainly took care of that for him to the point where he wanted no smoke for the rest of the film.

The Russo Brothers didn't do the Hulk dirty. The Hulk is a BRAWLER. Yes, he picked up a couple of things while on Sakaar, but he still deals with the majority of his opponents through sheer, overwhelming, brute force. Enter Thanos, a galactic warlord with CENTURIES of hand-to-hand fighting experience and is a master combatant. The Hulk loses that fight nine out of ten times because he isn't anywhere near the fighter Thanos is. Period.

That's what nearly everyone thought, but I think what they were going for was that after 2 years of freedom on Sakaar, Hulk didn't want to go back to only being allowed out when he was needed for a fight. Remember, Hulk is basically a peaceful being, a gentle giant with a hair trigger temper. He just wants to be left in peace. He had, for him, a cushy life on Sakaar, only having to occasionally fight in the arena, but those fights didn't carry any serious repercussions that would have people hating and hounding him endlessly. He actually felt _loved_ by the people.

Hulk didn't dominate everu fight he'd ever been in. Thor was winning in the arena on Sakaar until the Grandmaster intervened. Thanos with two infinity stones is definitely stronger than baseline Hulk, pretty sure in the comics even without the stones Thanos come out on top. But Hulk has literal infinite strength, since as he's getting beat up he's getting angrier, and as we all know the angrier he gets the stronger he gets. It's probable that in a straight up fight, if he wasn't Bridged away that the Hulk could have won, but then there are magic users involved so this situation would never result in a fair fight.

11:45 - Absolutely Tony's biggest fear since the end of the first Avengers film. Look how right after Tony says, "This is it", he starts STRETCHING. You're damn right, this is it. THIS is the threat Tony has been anticipating ever since he nearly died defending New York and he goes into overdrive. He hasn't even encountered anything having to do with Thanos yet and he's stretching. Tony is laser-focused throughout the film the second he hears the Mad Titan's name. When Tony later says to Doctor Strange, "No, it's YOU who doesn't understand that Thanos has been inside my head for SIX YEARS since he sent an army to New York, and now he's BACK", it ties together all of his behavior from the previous films in a nice little package. And it makes it feel like, for once, Tony has met his match. He's encountered an entity in the universe who can drive him to obsession, give him PTSD, and lead him to design the ultimate nano-tech suit just in hopes of stopping him.

I absolutely love Peters face when Tony 'Knights' him, as an Avenger, he has a moment of excitement and then you can see him change like "no, I'm an Avenger now, gotta have a serious face 😤" 😂😂 Also, there's a theory that "Groot speak" is taught on Asgard because Groot is originally part of the Yggdrasil tree, the Norse Mytholgy "World Tree"
@JakkFrost1
@JakkFrost1 8 ай бұрын
Well, Groot in the comics is canonically the exiled king of a whole species like him (which is ever so briefly hinted at in GotG 3 (not a major spoiler)), all of whom can only say "I am Groot". Still, that doesn't mean his whole race couldn't have been spawned by Yggdrasil. As for Peter, I may be nitpicking here, but I don't think it was so much that he "put on" a serious face, as it was that the magnitude of what being an Avenger really meant suddenly hit him.

Yes!!! You finally have Patreon!!! Fridays just got better!!! The opening Marvel Studios logo for this movie was made to celebrate the first ten years. I loved how we got to see Peter react to the Q-Ship. It took me back to the Marvel vs. Capcom arcade games when Spidey would say “spider senses are tingling.” Even when the world is in trouble, Tony still lands the best jokes. I also gotta give props to Ned on the bus, Bruce going hype mode for Thor, and Groot with Cap among other funny moments throughout the film. The four lackeys that were with Thanos are the Black Order: Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, and Cull Obsidian. Remember when Nebula said to Gamora that she was the sibling she hated the least? The Black Order are also Gamora and Nebula’s siblings by adoption. There were also theories about Red Skull surviving. Looks like they were right on the money. The army of aliens that attacked Wakanda are called Outriders. The Russo Brothers gave me two birthday presents in a row with Infinity War and Engdame. I remember we were all cheering for Stormbreaker entering the scene followed by Thor regaining his armor. That made for quite an entrance. As Groot vanished, “I am Groot” in that moment was him saying “dad…”. If you look closely, Wanda welcomed death. With Vision gone, she felt she no longer had a reason to live. Going into this, I knew Vision would be a liability. It pains me to say it, but while the Mind Stone is a powerful weapon it’s also a homing beacon for Thanos and his crew. We also can’t forget that his body is made out of vibranium. It might be the strongest metal on Earth, but the universe is more than just that or even our own solar system. Unless Corvus’ weapon is also made out of the same material, then it must be made out of something stronger that we don’t know about. Also, the fact that it took a lot for Tony to make Thanos bleed even one bit just further proves that he’s hard to kill. Spider-Man’s vanishing was the most painful to watch. Back in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tony did say that he’d feel responsible if Peter died and didn’t want that piled on his conscience. Just before he vanished, he apologized to his mentor feeling he didn’t do enough to stop Thanos but he gave it his all. The Russo Brothers knew what they were doing. Spider-Man has been a fan favorite for years, and the MCU’s incarnation is a high school teen with a lot of potential. That’s why they had him die slow.

I hactually had this thought a while ago about the Phase 3 villains and that each one in the movies prior to Thanos all embody separate traits that Thanos himself has so, in a way, the audience is already familiar with those characteristics so then when we see them all combined into one character, that character is instantly someone we know, connect with, and are very afraid of. FYI, Thanos and his crew didn't kill all of the Asgardians aboard the refugee ship. True to his M.O. they wiped out half, and allowed half flee in escape pods. Minor spoiler: The directors confirmed in an interview that Valkyrie was among the half that got away. Of course at the end of this movie their population was halved again, so the current status of any specific Asgardian we didn't see onscreen is unknown.

The Space Stone is what Thanos has been using to teleport himself from place to place. When Red Skull grabbed the Tesseract, he just got teleported to this planet. So, it doesn't happen to everyone who touches just any stone, I'm fairly sure it's specific to the Space Stone. So glad you're watching these last few movies of Phase Three now.... yeh they're definitely intense movies but Endgame is so worth the wait. It's so good. So people can touch most of the stones, except the power stone. And I guess the aether because it's al liquidy. But we have seen other people hold the tesseract before, including Nick Fury in the first Avengers film. I believe it was accessing the power on his own that cast the Skull out through the portal to Vormir. That's why Thanos needed the gauntlet, to access the stones' powers without being destroyed. They don't quite spell that out.

It's pretty clear that the post-credits scene from Age of Ultron doesn't align with what happened later, just like the fake gauntlet Hela saw in Asgard's vault. The MCU writers changed their minds on the story between films. Just like the aether in Thor: The dark world isn't at all similar in effect to the reality stone in Infinity War. They probably hadn't fully worked out which stones would be introduced in which order, and changed their minds with Guardians of the Galaxy.

Great reaction as always Jax! The answer to the Hulk's refusal to participate lies in the comics. The Hulk is the manifestation of Bruce Banner's childhood trauma and hatred at feeling impotent and unable to do the things to save people he cared about. As a child Bruce watched his father murder his mother and hated that, though he tried, he was powerless to prevent his mother's death. That psychological trauma is what the Hulk is born from and feeds on and what makes him an almost uncontrollable rage machine for destruction. It is the embodiment of 'NOTHING will stop me ever again, nothing will defeat me, I will destroy my enemies'. And, for years, that was what happened. The Hulk was all but unstoppable and was never defeated. Until Thanos. Thanos brutalized the Hulk. He didn't just defeat him, he humiliated him and, worst of all, he made the Hulk feel like puny Banner did as a child, watching his mother die. Hulk, not being a reasoning creature, can't logically think his way through it because he's all emotion and no thought. Hulk, for all his fury, is basically scared and ashamed because something that could never be allowed to happen, i.e. losing a battle, has happened and he can't deal with it. So he hides. Funny how the great era of comics, derided for just being beat-em-up stories, also contained a lot of very well done and deep psychological and societal commentary. But that's how they became such a success. They could give us something to identify with and feel empathy for because they, for all their superpowers, were also very human. And the first three phases of the MCU recounted stories told from this multi-decade great era of comics. I love that Thor calls Rocket a rabbit. 😀 Though he has spent a lot of time in North America, I guess Thor didn't have to deal with trash pandas while he was there, so he equates Rocket with an animal he knows: rabbits. 😀 A bit silly perhaps, but wonderfully amusing. "Lamby, I may not be able to put you down for the rest of the movie." You probably won't. And you probably shouldn't. 😞 Side note: You should consider a merchandise store selling emotional support Lambys, including some with a variety of costumes. Not official costumes, but even Lamby with a generic cape or a generic seasonal costume could be fun. 😀 Probably not worth it, but fun to consider. 😛

@@mechanomics2649 I was basing my statement, as I said, on the comics. I know the Russos had different reasons and thoughts, but they diverged from the comics.
